NCAA Division I tourney in brief

Draw: The Women's Soccer Committee will announce
the 48 teams for the championship at 8 or 9 p.m. ET,
on Sunday, Nov. 5. <br><br>Format: Sixteen teams
will receive byes in the first round, i.e. 32 teams
will play on Wednesday, Nov. 8. <br><br>Thirty-two
teams will play in the second round on either Saturday
or Sunday, Nov. 11, or 12. <br><br>The third round
(16 teams) will be played Friday night, Saturday or
Sunday, Nov. 17, 18, or 19. <br><br>The quarterfinals
will be played on Friday night, Saturday or Sunday,
Nov. 24, 25, or 26. <br><br>All preliminary-round
competition (first-, second-, third-, and fourth-rounds) will
be conducted on the campus of one of the two
participating institutions. <br><br>Final four: The semi-finals
will be contested at San Jose's Spartan Stadium on
Friday and Sunday, Dec. 1 and 3. <br><br>In the event an
institution with a policy against Sunday competition
(documented with the national office) advances to the
championship weekend, the semi-finals will be contested
Friday, Dec. 1 and the finals will be Saturday, Dec. 2.
<br><br>Automatic bids: These 21 conferences will automatically
advance their champions to the NCAA preliminary round of
the Women's College Cup: <br><br>America East
<br><br>Atlantic 10 Conference <br><br>Atlantic Coast Conference
<br><br>Big East Conference <br><br>Big Ten Conference
<br><br>Big 12 Conference <br><br>Big West Conference
<br><br>Colonial Athletic Association <br><br>Conference USA
<br><br>Ivy Group <br><br>Mid-American Conference
<br><br>Midwestern Collegiate Conference <br><br>Missouri Valley
Collegiate Conference <br><br>Mountain West Conference
<br><br>Pacific 10 Conference <br><br>Patriot League
<br><br>Southeastern Conference <br><br>Southern Conference
<br><br>Trans Atlantic Athletic Conference <br><br>West Coast
Conference <br><br>Western Athletic Conference
<br><br>Play-ins: In addition the following conferences have been
identified to participate in a play-in: <br><br>Big Sky
Conference (Montana, 14-4-1) will host Southland Conference
(Northwestern State, 15-7-0) (on Nov. 4 at 2 p.m. CT)
<br><br>Big South Conference (Liberty, 14-6-0) will host Ohio
Valley Conference (Tennessee Tech, 12-7-0) (on Nov. 3 at
7 p.m. ET) <br><br>Northeast Conference
(Quinnipiac, 12-6-1) will host Metro Atlantic Athletic
Conference (Loyola, Md., 15-4-0) (on Nov. 4 at 12 p.m. ET)
