Sorry I missed you Sam, We could have gone sailing. I was in California the
last 10 days. The lake I live on kind of sucks anyway. I used to like it when
I was a brand new beginer but I've kind of out grown it. The far side of the
lake is much more fun, but from where I live you have to tack all the way over
there and then carry your rig underneath the bridge. Kind of time consuming and
a pain in the arse.

Bill,
Thanks again for the info.
If you ever get to Columbus, let me know and we can go sailing here. We have two
5000 acre lakes in the Columbus area so water acess is no problem. It's wind
that we often lack from May through Sept.
GO CATS!

Bill,
Thanks for responding. The lake looked like it would be ok but I wouldn't want
to be the first ever windsurfer to go out on it.
Is there any access to the lake that is inside New Circle and Richmond Roads by
the water company?

Sam,
You are allowed to sail there. You are supose to have a life vest. The wind is
flukey there. I do not think any direction gets a clean blow. When it is really
blowing and you do not have time to go anywhere else, it beats a goose egg.

windsurfing but don't know if there is anyplace to do it there.
Does anyone windsurf in Lexington or somewhere nearby?

Sam,
Yes there are a few of us. Very few.In Lex. itself there is Jacobson Lake on
Richmond Rd.
You can sail it , but not one of your top spots. Some days it can be good there.
Lake Carnico in Carlisle is probably the best, closest place. The wind needs to
be SW or W, which is our prevailing wind pattern. That gives it a fairly clean
blow over the dam there. It is about a 45 min. drive. Cave run is about an hour.
It can be really flukey. Some days it can hit real good there and some it does
not. It is surrounded by hills. If the forecast is for west wind, Louisville at
Coxs Park on the river is the best. I am self-employed and if the forecast for
wind is for 20mph or above I for the most part go sailing.
Always hoping for wind,
Bill

Hi Rod,
If you live in Louisville, Deam is close and you don't have to watch
for barges or other power boats. They do have a nice rigging and
launching area that is a grass covered peninsula just 50 feet from the
boat ramp.
Deam is good to hone your balance and sailing skills because the wind
can be very tricky. One day I was able to turn almost 360 degrees on a
single tack. There are some shallow areas that are pretty evident so
stay away from those so you don't get into any problems following head
first into shallow water.
If it's gusty, you may find yourself flying past the gust so that you
don't get to enjoy the whole thing. For that, you may find it good to
let the gust blow 10 seconds before hitting the "go" button so you can
maximize the gust.
Just a few thoughts. I have definitely had some great times at Deam.
My favorite place in the area is Patoka Lake in Indiana. It would take
me 70 minutes to get there, but if it was blowing, it was always worth
it. Patoka is big enough and flat enough terrain that the wind is
pretty clean.
I now live in Atlanta since moving from Louisville last year, but
still interested in my Louisville area friends that sail.
Have fun.

Hi! I've joined this group because I just learned to windsurf while on a
vacation at the Outer Banks and fell in love with it. The wind there and the
water conditions were perfect for a beginner. I don't have any gear yet but am
looking for a deal somewhere.
I was hoping that maybe you all planned excursions and times to meet at certain
locations. Maybe not? Please fill me in on how you all work.
Thanks

I talked to Bill this morning and he said he was going to Lake Carnico today. I
couldn't go because I have to be at a wedding. I've gotten together with Bill
twice and one of the times there were a few other guys there. They like to go
to Lake Carnico in Carlisle but I don't think it's anything special.
I'm a newbie too. I live in Lexington on the water resevoire on Richmond Rd.
I keep my sail rigged up and if it's Windy I just hop in. Since I'm a newbie
I'm a lot less picky than the other guys. They usually only like to go out if
the wind is screaming. Which doesn't happen too much. Keep your eye on the
weather and email me sometime if the conditions look good and you want to sail.
For the resevoire I'm on, 10 MPH is good enough for me to get out there. More
is better of course. And it has to be coming from the South or South West.
I don't check this email much. If you want to get in touch try me at work
Adam.Katz@.... I don't have any gear for sail. I just of 1 sail and
1 board. But your'e welcome to try it if you want. I know Bill probably has
about 6 boards and even more sails. I don't know if he's selling any.

Bill,
Water is still not to cold. I'd say we have a little time left
before winter. I've got a shorty wet suit and that makes a big
difference. I've got a Bic jungle board and Gaastra Pilot 5.5 sail.
If you see the wind up and want to sail, email me at work.

Adam,
That lake can be alright on a SW or NE. On the SW you sail to the south end of
the lake and it is better there. You can also tack up to the road and drag your
board under the bridge. The sailing is much better there on that lake for a SW.
Carnico is a W or SW anything else don't bother going.
If the wind is up and out of the SW that lake you live on can be alot of fun.If
I see the wind is up I will give you an e-mail.I have a ton of equipment, ready
for all conditions.Maybe we caN GET SOME FALL SAILING IN.tHE WATER STAYS WARM
FOR A WHILE.What kind of equipment do you have.

Which is pretty good. I work for myself, so if the wind is up I for the most
