Mike,
Welcome to Louisville!
Sorry for the delay in responding. My work has been crazy the last
month. Kentucky Lake is excellent. I grew up near there, but since you
have moved to Louisville, let me share some closer spots. Most of the
good close spots are actually in Indiana. Deam Lake is only 20 minutes
from Louisville in Indiana, and Patoka Lake is 70 minutes from
Louisville in Indiana. Patoka is wonderful but a longer drive. Deam is
great because it's close, but small so the wind direction sure makes a
difference. Check out the website
http://www.crestonparker.com/windsurf/ for maps and more places.
There are about 20 windsurfers in and around Louisville that I know
about. Some have been into it for decades and some are new to it.
As far as renting, I think the closest shop to Louisville that carries
windsurf gear will be at the northern tip of Indiana on Lake Michigan.
Rick Robison is one of the locals that has lots of equipment. Some old
and some new. He always has some stuff for sale and he may rent some to
you as well. You can Rick at eeyore@...
To enjoy windsurfing in this region, you really have to study the
weather. Our best wind season is from October 1 through May 30th. The
summer is not so good for wind, but an occasional front will bring
some. Hurricane Dennis of course has brought some wind through here in
the past week.
What equipment did you use in England and what types of conditions did
you have?
It's nice to meet you and I hope to sail with you soon. My work
schedule has not allowed me to get to the water in over a month. I am
in need a some time on the water with some 18 Knot winds.
Best regards,
Creston
