Thanks for the email and chiming in. I'm not sure who you are since the email address is new to me. While the entire process related to the re-design of the course left much to be desired all around, I'm not quite sure that the Parks Board should shoulder the blame here.
In the end, the Parks Board was left with a faustian bargain dictated by the Board of Supervisors to re-design the course under extremely strict conditions.
Yes, the original design also included the long distance between holes 1-18 and in many people's view including mine, it was less-than-ideal. When I asked the designer about it, he told me it was his intent to give players a quality course while minimizing any damage to sensitive areas of the park.
As I mentioned to Cubby, the lesson learned here needs to be that when proposing and building new courses, disc golf advocates and designers need to involve not only the local government folks, they also need to involve any potential neighbors in the design efforts.

There were many viable alternatives offered by the members of the "Discgolf Sub-Committee" that answered most of the objections. These alternatives even started and ended the course in the same area. The original course, supposedly designed by a professional, had tee boxes in stream beds and the first and last hole 1/2 mile apart. The course that you have now was proposed by your Park Board. Any of the sub-committee proposals would of been 1000% better than what your Park Board gave you. You should have consequences of design-by-committee (sub-committee). What you have is consequences-of-design by Park Board. That is why this is the worst course that Cubby ever played. Be sure to send this response to your PB and BOS just to lay out the facts! Oh that's right ... facts? What facts?
