May 7th, 2pm at Slice and Dice? I will most likely be there a little
early finding out how strange a plastic boat feels.

Sunday the 14th is Mother's Day... will be in Florida with a Mom and
Mother in law :-)

While we are at it, I will be at the Nantahala for the 12 hour race at
Tsali on the 20th. The Sunday 21st is open all day for paddling. It
might be a good day for folks doing the Masters Worlds to do a pickup
race on the top end of the Nantahala where it is shallow. Aimee will
be there so we have a shuttle driver and timer if needed.

Memorial Day weekend - Anyone want to paddle the Pigeon? A Monday
afternoon Ocoee run might also work.

i think eric and i will meet up with chan to do runs thurs/fri am.
middy and peter l/callum will come up for the race.

anyone whos coming - read this: if theres enough interest we can have
a race over the weekend on the narrows, or another of the many
awesome wildwater runs in the area, levels depending, and i have
heard rumors of locals again trying to organize races on the big
sandy and north fork of the blackwater (not wildwater runs by the
way) if we get dumped on.

call me up if your looking to shuttle up for practice runs/creeking.

If I did not have to back early on Sunday - you would be recruited :-
)

How about an Ocoee Sunday next weekend (May 7th)? 2pm would be
great.

I for one... could be easily conned into the once traditional Sunday afternoon
wildwater paddling of the Ocoee. An old boat with gruch pads and lots of
protecto wrap, or a wave hopper is the choice of the the Ocoee veterans... .and
don't put on until 2:00ish.

It could be a great weekend... the cool rain will kill the raft taffic and
Sunday afternoons are usually ok anyway.

Let me know if I'm being drafted.

The Pigeon is too far for me this weekend. I have only been home
2 or 3 weekends this year and 6 hours of driving for a couple hours
of paddling breaks the paddle more than you drive rule :-)

I would love to do the Cheat however, Aimee has a 12 hour race that
weekend and I am her pit crew.

Have fun up there!

Man, I wish I could be there, but I’ve already got plans. FYI, the Chattooga is pretty low ( 1.35 @ the bridge ), so it might be a little scrapy. I would love to join you sometime if the river is above 1.5 or 1.6. I think it would be best at at least 1.7 or 1.8, even though it would be a very fast run.

If the Chattooga doesn’t work out for this weekend, the Dirty Bird (Pigeon) is probably a viable option. It’s easy to get a shuttle on too.

You still tied up next weekend during the Cheat? If you’re not, we should train together before the race.

Chan

I’ll be there. I’m driving up either Wednesday or Thursday, so if there is time, I’ll make a few training runs. If anyone who knows the Wildwater lines on the Cheat is reading this, I would love to train with you if you can make it before the race, since I have never paddled the Cheat. If not, no worries. I’ll have plastic boats with me too.

I store my boats the same, under a deck, only thing I can recommend is
a cockpit cover to keep out birds and bees.

Hi everyone,

For those of you without inside storage - how do y'all store your
boats?  I'm thinking about UV damage over time.  I was thinking about
a boat bag but would this add other issues like heat buildup in the
sun?  The other thing with the bag is that I've seen wet gear on epoxy
boats in the sun cause clouding - so if my boat's in the bag and it
rains and then gets sunny....

Am I just worrying too much about all of this?  I've stored plastic
and old beat up composite boats in the sun for yrs but I just dropped
a decent amount of $$ on a ww boat and would like to keep it as strong
as possible for as long as possible.

Thanks,
Colby

Looks like no water, therefore no race on the Lehigh this coming weekend.

A new E-zine was sent to all USAWildwater.com subscribers on April 6th.
Since then I learned that I had included invalid links for the results of
the Mulberry Fork and Locust Fork races. The links that were included in the
original E-zine mailing were (mostly) for the slalom races.

The copy of the E-zine file on the USAWildwater.com web site has been
corrected for the Mulberry Fork race results. I am still trying to find the
correct link for the results of the Locust Fork Downriver Race. When I find
it, I will update the E-zine file again.

The latest version of the E-zine file can be found at:

Now that the racers had caught their breaths, I would really like 2 articles for the USAWildwater.com web site - one for the US Open held on March 24-25 and the other for the Team Trials held on April 1-2. Please send your article to me (usawildwater-at-earthlink-dot-com).

Thanks,   Chuck Brabec

We have a sponsor for the medals for the Downriver Race. Let me know if you help me put medals together in time for this race. I can also use a couple volunteers for Timing and Safety.
Chuck, please repost this UPDATE along with the attachment  on www.USAWildwater.com.

38th Annual Southeastern US Whitewater Championships - Downriver Race is April 15th - Slalom is April 8th
Wildwater Chairman will pay you to beat Southeastern Records

April 4th,  2006 -- Atlanta, GA The 38th Annual Southeastern US Whitewater Championships are alive and well. In support of one of the longest running Wildwater/Downriver races in North America (the 38th Annual Southeastern US Whitewater Championships), USA Wildwater Chairman John Pinyerd, will put up $400 of his own money and bet that the old records cannot be beaten. "Just like last year, I would love to pay out the dough, and I would love to see someone step up and break one of the records." John Pinyerd will personally award $100 per class to any Southeastern's racer who can beat the course record for the 8-mile top to bottom race of the Nantahala on April 15th. The records are:
K-1 - Terry White (1981) 42:04
K-1W - Kathy Bolyn (1989) 45:20
C-2 - Mike Hipsher/David Jones (1989) 45:11
C-1 - John Pinyerd (1997) 46:43

This race has a long and rich tradition with many of the great names of Wildwater participating over the years. They include John Sweet, Payson Kennedy, Alan Button, Dave Mason, John Butler, Angus Morrison, Andy Bridge, Terry White, Kathy Bolyn, David Jones, Bunny Johns and Mike Hipsher. In the spirit of regional racing, and in an attempt to appeal to novice and intermediate racing, the Southeasterns will be part of the 8th Annual intercollegiate Championships. The slalom race will be a very low key race and will be held downstream of the Nantahala Outdoor Center on Saturday, April 8th (a.m.) and with a head to head competition Saturday afternoon.

The Downriver/Wildwater race will be held the following Saturday on April 15th. Registration will be on race day and there will be NO REQUIRED ENTRY FEES, only a suggested donation of $10 for USA Wildwater plus the cost of insurance for anyone that is not a USACK or ACA member. The traditional Classic 8-mile Downriver/Wildwater race (from the top to the bottom) will start at 11:00ish  (race day registration will start at 9:00 a.m. in the NOC parking lot, with a competitors meeting beginning at 10:00).  To ensure that we don't interfere with Rafts and other boaters, and can have a warm up, we will put in at the very top (next to the power house)

So please come out and help me keep this great race alive and see just how well you stack up against the records. Who knows, you might even make a $100!
