Dear Whitewater Team Alumni and Friends,

Plans are firming up for the reunion at the Slalom National
Championships at the Adventure Sports Center in McHenry, Maryland.
There will be a reunion dinner on Friday August 3, the night before
the Nationals.  The barbecue dinner will start at 7:00, not long
after the slalom demonstration runs, and will run until 9:00.  The
Nationals are scheduled to start at 3:00 P.M. the next day, the 4th
of August, and should be over by 8 P.M.  There will be a bluegrass
band and festivities into the night. On Sunday there is tentative
plan for a release on the nearby Upper Yough.  This is an opportunity
to see the other new artificial whitewater venue.  You can check it
out at http://www.adventuresportscenter.com/.

There is also planned to be a reunion to coincide with the Wildwater
Nationals on the Deerfield River near Charlemont, Massachusetts, most
likely Saturday night, August 25th.  Details to come.

In summer racing news, Brett Heyl is currently standing third in the
Slalom World Cup series, after two races.  Results can be found by
following links from the USACK site:
http://www.usacanoekayak.org/

Oldtimers such as I might be interested to know that the woman
currently standing second in the World Cup series, Violetta Oblinger-
Peters, is the daughter of two-time World Champion ('67, '69)
Wolfgang Peters.

On the wildwater side, the latest is that Jennie Goldberg placed 6th
in the Sprint event in Ivrea, Italy.  I've seen some of the footage,
this was a tough one, with 30% of the field not finishing.  For those
with a fast connection, you can see video coverage (including of
Jennie) at

Other wildwater news is available from the wildwater e-zine, through
this link:

It would be nice to get at least of rough count of those who plan to
attend the August 3rd dinner, so if you plan on coming, please email
me with a count of how many you will bring along.  Though last-minute
attendees are always welcome!

Thanks,

Jamie McEwan
