We enjoyed significant growth in USA Wildwater from 2004-07. The bullet point version of what we did right was:
- Really promote our sport and our events (especially big events like Team Trials and Nationals as well as training camp)
- Host training camps (and use them to bring new paddlers into the sport)
- Help facilitate the importation of boats by the container load from Zastera, buy wave hoppers, and buy used boats at the Jr Worlds.
- Add Master's and Junior's classes to major races.
- Field excellent Master's teams for international competition
Some Ideas (like the mentoring program we implemented) were met with mixed results.
We obviously need to do more of these kinds of things and incorporate new ideas (like great prizes and prize money at Nationals).
Who wants to help Dan and me (the USAWW Committee) make it happen in 09?
