The 2008 Whitewater Open Canoe Downriver National Championships will
be held on the French Broad River from July 10-13. The races will
take place on the stretch of river between Barnard and Hot Springs in
Pisgah National Forest, commonly known as Section 9. These
championships are sanctioned by the American Canoe Association.
Detailed information about the event can be found at
www.fbcanoeracing.org/nationals.html
IN ADDITION TO THE CATEGORIES LISTED ON THE ENTRY FORM, WE ARE ALSO
HAPPY TO HAVE ANY JUNIOR WILDWATER RACERS THAT MIGHT WANT TO
COMPETE. WE WILL NOT HAVE FORMAL CLASSES OR AWARDS FOR WILDWATER
RACERS, BUT WE WILL BE HAPPY TO TIME YOU, SET SAFETY FOR YOU, AND
GENERALLY HAVE YOU JOIN THE FRAY. THE SATURDAY, JULY 12, IS
PROBABLY THE BEST DAY TO COME, BUT YOU ARE WELCOME ON ANY DAY. JUST
EMAIL ME AT fbracechair@... IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN
COMING AND WE WILL GET YOU SET UP. JUNIOR WILDWATER RACERS NEED ONLY
PAY THE $5 ACA FEE IF THEY ARE NOT ALREADY MEMBERS. WARNING: LOW
WATER ON SECTION 9 IS VERY HARD ON GLASS BOATS!!! ALMOST ALL OF THE
OPEN BOATERS COMPETING WILL BE PADDLING PLASTIC BOATS!
We could also really use some on-the-river volunteers to set safety
(other volunteers are welcome also!). If you can help, or have
questions about voluntering or the event, please contact us at
fbracechair@...
Thanks!!
