I'll probably skip Washington, Oregon, & Maryland. A pro light
bracket class will be good practice for me. I believe that a lot of
street racers would enjoy this format better without all of the
redlights, or is it just me that does that. LOL Later Julian

I had a question asked about the tree, and wanted to clarify what we
will be running. The question was on shadded or unshadded. WIR's
shade only covers the bottom yellows, and leaves the top yellows
open, and visible to both lanes. Thanks guys for all the interest
and e-mails, and look forward to racing with everyone planning to
attend!

Thanks Julian! I printed off the AHDRA schedule. Which races do
you attend of theirs? I thought you might like this format!!

Count me in!!!! This sounds like a program that I would support every
chance I can. The AHDRA schedule is posted on www.ahdra.com if that
will help with the scheduling. Sorry I missed the Turkey Race but I
blew up my race bike motor. Hopefully the new one will run Super Gas
at the PMRA races. Later Julian

Hello to everyone! For some, this may be a second time of receiving
info on this, and I am sorry for that, but wanted to get it sent to
everyone, so I needed to resend. We are making some big changes at
WIR for the bikes in 2004, and wanted to get some feedback. Bike
class will be run once per month, and WILL NOT conflict with the
PMRA schedule, or the AMA St. Louis race. We will be using a .400
PRO tree, and will allow deepstaging. Minimum payout/entry will be
as follows: Entry $40, buy-back $15, Win $250.00, r/up $125.00,
3rd/4th $75.00 each. However, my goal is to have a pay-out as
follows: Entry $50, Buy-back $15, Win $500.00, r/up $250.00, 3rd/4th
$125.00 each. I would like to have an idea of how many of you would
show up for a once per month race, and your ideas on pay-outs. We
are also thinking of having a quick-8 race on the Saturday of the
PMRA Sunday race, and possibly at the SummerNats, but don't have any
details at this time. Hoping to have tentative schedule up by the
end of next weekend, and will post on here when it is available.
Julian, please let me know if anything conflicts with the AHDRA, and
other Harley races you guys attend, and I'll do my best to work
around them if I can before we print the schedule. Also, this will
be a points earning class, and will have jackets, trophies, some
cash, and prizes to the top 5 in the final standings at the end of
the year. Thanks for your time, and please, feel free to comment.

Good to hear from you Terry, Bryan, and Mike. I also forgot to
mention that this will be a points-earning class, and will award the
top 5 at the end of the season with trophies, cash, and prizes.
Have not gotten far enough along to discuss the points yet, but it
will be worth running for! Like I said, this is still all in the
works, but would like to have everything finalized before Starbird's
car show, so that we can have some info next to the bikes in the
show to help get the word out. Thanks guys, and keep in touch!

Bryan,
Speaking for the three Edwards' - Terry, Mike and Bryan, we would support this
type of program as consistently as possible next year. The ideas are good, keep
us posted. Also, please update my e-mail address in the group distribution to:

Or, tell me what I need to do to accomplish this. Thanks!

We are working on having a once per month bracket class at WIR in
2004 (along with a possible quick 8). Still working out the
details, but the dates WILL NOT interfere with the PMRA schedule, or
AMA St. Louis race. .400 Pro tree (deep staging would be allowed).
Looking at having a minimum $250 win, $125 r/up, and $50 3rd/4th,
with a $40 entry, and $15 buy backs. Payout will go up, if the bike
count is good (we would like to see $500win, $250r/up, $125 3rd/4th,
with $50entry, and the same $15 buy-backs, after the first race, but
need to get a feel for how many racers would attend on a regular
basis). No details on the quick 8, and am open to suggestions
(handicap, or heads-up. Ladders, etc.). Also working on a class
sponsorship from a few sources, and with Wayne, which would help
with the pay-out as well. The race dates will hopefully be listed
on the regular WIR schedule when it is issued, and I will post it on
here, as soon as it comes available. Any ideas or comments, feel
free to post. Thanks!

For anyone interested, I have a complete, ready to run 1327cc KZ o-

buttons, and brand new set of APE tool steel pins. $500.00 for
everything. If you already have pins, and don't need these, I will
deduct $80 from the price (price of the pins). Decided to go bigger
on the new engine. This ready-to-run set would cost $1078.00 plus

I've only known Larry for about one year. His knowledge of old air-
cooled Kawasaki engines is sharp, wish I had his wisdom sometimes.
Somehow I've managed to build a 1200cc engine with what I consider
the best of everything without any outside help. Well, by the time
I'd met Bernie all the spending was over but he did offer some good
advice. My combination could be overkill but that's what I wanted.

I ran into Larry at Kamakazi, I had a huge clutch cable made of
Harley cable because the weak aftermarket cables were breaking after
a few weeks. This new cable was massive. Larry was there and seen Ron
messing with it. What's that for? I told him an old KZ1000. I still
don't think he understands why I wanted such a nice cable for my
bike. Really wasn't any of his business but he got to vent about it
anyway. I thought he was getting awfully involved to a person he
didn't know.

Trust me, I'd love to race a bike at International with you guys.
After working second shift for 12 years, my life is shit. Money is
slow, house is a pit, car is old & getting older. I dream of life
after child support, just 5 more years.... Building the 1200 engine &
bike has taken two years and counting. And no, it had to be built
this way or I wouldn't have done it at all. I've bought a few other
bikes that I just couldn't pass up, that meant a lot of sacrifices in
other areas. Some of us just struggle along, never reaching the goal.
300K in child support paid out, can't I have one damn decent bike? I
guess not without a lot of suffering. Anyway, I hope the track
survives. I have hope. Look at it this way, all the Top Fuel guys are
old men, I have a ways to go yet, it's not all grey yet. I'll just
jump right into Top Fuel and skip over the slow bikes, yeah, that's
what I'll do....

little james put the smack down on everyone sunday at the pmra drags
with that ancient 750 suzuki! yep, a little kid on a beat up yella
bike. all he needed to complete the picture was a a playing card in
the spokes and a lemonade stand! congrats james!

but on the other hand, we (bernie, bryan, me) never shoulda got him
started. and bj is gonna be tough too. gonna add a bar and a slick
to his 1300 and walk away with the points (at least second place).

now, my two cents worth on the future of the bike class at wir. i
just poked a little fun at 'em. guys like james and bj. open to
suggestions, ask for help when they need it and accept it when its
given. willing to lend a hand, unload a bike, stuff like that.
along with being nice guys, they are open to new technology. (that
little brown box and a button on the left if you have to ask).

the future of the bike class rests on the regular racers, guys like
bj, james, bryan, bernie, not the one run wonders who "have their own
opinion", the street racers who wanna hot lap till the cops take a
donut break around nine, the fair weather racers who if they don't
have anything better to do will go race. given enough time, i betcha
a bunch of new racers start to show up, guys who wanna race and are
not afraid to change with the times. shoot, i scrapped out a whole
bike and bought another to race this year. the old one just wasn't
cutting it, so i went metric. and added a box, a two step, button
launch, slick, wheelie bars, etc., etc. to boot.

as a matter of fact, a bunch of new racers have been showing up and
have been competitive. three kz's in new paint, didn't enter points
but show up to race none the less.

street racers don't wanna race a wheelie bar bike? how 'bout this?
i don't wanna race a punk riding mommies money.

well, my two cents stretched to a buck and a half, but so what.

toodles.

p.s. i hadta add the "opinion" thingie to see if he really was gonna
stay outta the forum for good, or just peek in every now and then to
see if someone was talking about him.

Yet explain this to me Joe. You spanked me on the light last time you
were out. I have not heard but a couple of people voice any bad
things on delay boxes. I have talked to alot of street riders and
they have no clue what a delay box is. The street guys want to come
out, make 50 passes in 2 hours and go home. If we go no electronics,
where do you stop. No boxes, no 2 steps, no air shifters, no
autoshifters!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm not hounding on you, if it will get the
bike count up, I will not use the delay box.
See you later

Bryan..

I told Wayne last year that this what was going to happen..

I know that Berney and you are within the rule to use and have
crossovers, but like every other track that has them, they also have
either a low or no bike count. I talked to Bill Baxter last year
about this and he said that they use to have 30 to 50 bikes every
weekend. Over the couse of one winter 3 bikes installed crossovers
and there bike count inside 1 month fell to 5 to 10 bike. By the end
of the season there were just 3 bikes, can you guess which 3???

Please do not take this as an attack on Berney and you. I like you
both and have the upmost repect for both of you. I also feel that you
both are very fine racers and don't need the crossovers. But I'm not
you and you are the ones that have made the choice to use them.

So now you ask, what do we do to raise the bike count???
When I started racing in 2000 all I use to hear from the street
racers was "I can't beat a wheelie bar bike" So in 2001 I won the
Championship on a stone stock street bike.. Just to prove that yes
you can beat a wheelie bar bike.

But now you have a whole new problem with the crossover and this is
one problem I don't know how to solve without someone getting pissed
and there feeling hurt, on either side of the issue....

Bike class is in jeapordy at the track. Low bike count is the reason.

Hello Bernie, everyone. I was working on an old '78 KZ1000 and ran
into some problems while modifying the engine. Just thought I'd drop
a line to say everything is going well and problems are solved.

First, for anyone wondering what the trouble was. I installed a big
pin crank in the old KZ. This is a street bike so it was important to
have the charging system working. Big pin cranks take a different
style stator & magnet. I just used what I had around in parts
engines. So a '81 Gpz1100 starter gear, magnet & stator & cover fit
right on without any modifying. It was suggested that the new style
regulator/regulator box be used instead of the '78's separate units.
I have to add that the 1978 KZ1000 is a one year only wired bike. The
service manuals do not correctly identify the wires on this model so
be aware. '79 is the first year of the late model stator. Anyway,
once you remove the side plate and look at how the three terminal
plugs are wired, it's very easy to understand how to connect the
three late model "yellow" stator wires. Coming from the reg/rect box,
the black wire is ground, brown is a switched positive, white is
battery & the three yellow's are stator. On the '78 you can use
either blue, white or green terminal plugs. There all wired into each
other from the back side so it's up to you which one to use. One is
going to get left off because your no longer needing to plug in a
separate rectifyer.

All that may read confusing but it's not a problem, anyone needing
more direction just email me at rw218@... or talk with Bernie
and he can put you in contact with me.

Curt Sexton moved to Woodlawn & Harry beside the Kentucky Fried
Chicken. He's almost my neighbor now.

I've also learned the limit of the Dyna S ignition. Speaking with
Curt, I explained the ignition couldn't time the engine correctly. It
was time to move up to a Dyna 2000 so this should fix the "unknown"
timing situation. Bernie you were correct when we last spoke, the
advancer weights are thrown out too early, engine wants to idle too
high. Don't want weights for an advance with big cams.

The 3 inch over swingarm allows for a 6 inch wide rim out back. Now I
just have to solve the problem of the tire sticking out past the
fender... Again, it's a street bike of sorts, have to maintain a tail
light & tag. That rim brings a problem as well, it's a ZX11 rim, that
means a 530 sprocket. I went with a Gpz1100 transmission, had to
order a special sprocket for a 530 chain. It's worth it though, the
1100 output shaft is huge.

Hey, I'll have this bike ridable this summer. It's running as far as
the engine goes. 250 horsepower sounds great.
