I was glad to get your post. I live in Poughkeepsie and have to this point not found any other river boarders. Contact me offline at marshvet@... and we can discuss getting together etc.
As far as fins, I disagree about the long fins. They are bulky, and will make manipulation difficult. If you had lots of deep water, perhaps it would work but most people talk about shorter fins.
I would welcome more thoughts about this on this listserve.
