Ken,
I would agree with the others that a 2 piece suit is a better way to
go due to its versatility. If you're looking for a less expensive
suit try your local dive shop as they often turnover their rental
suits and you can usually get one in decent shape. The trick is
making sure you get some patches on the knees and rear end. That's
where I've found suits to wear out the fastest. As far as helmets -
Pro-Tec, and fins - if you scuba or snorkel those type of fins are
nice if they're big enough to fit over booties. Fin leashes are
strongly recommended. Otherwise the Chruchill fin is a decent fin
and Custom X has a similar fin for a little less money. PFD - just
watch the specialty ones designed for kayaking (flotation centered
around stomach)as they can be uncomfortable boarding since you're
laying prone instead of sitting upright. Look for a jacket that is
flat.
