John,

I would recommend taking a trip with www.extremenc.com so you can
test out some riverboarding equipment first before buying. They
offer trips on the French Broad river in western NC.

Living in FLA western Carolina & East Tenn are the closest places to
go. Any recommendations as far a equipment, instruction, etc. Any
advise is appreciated.
