Have you seen the new start, on the Holmfirth website...Attached are the route notes for the traditional route - you'll be hard pushed not to get a prize, such is the superb organisation....

                                                                Holme Moss

This is a very good course, always well organised, often with more spot prizes at the end than runners...Real value for money, an example for other meany races to study..

Start:- GR116056 - the lane is usually signed off the A6024.

You start up paths, lanes, a bit of road - a nice settle into things, to the moors, 131046, then break W along the marked path on the map. It is now all flagged to Holme Moss Road - access requirements, etc. When this fades, drop steeply and carefully down to the valley of Ramsden Clough, follow a path to the edge of the wood, 122043, and pull steeply up the other side to somewhere near 119041. Then follow the path W to the road at the top, 098039.
Marshals guide you across the road, drinks in a car park, flagged through to a stile, then a clear grassy drop to Heyden Brook, 092034. Climb out, and on the rib just S of the little marked stream there is enough of a path. Stay with this line, stay on a path as it veers Leftish and the CP comes, not a problem, somewhere on Tooleyshaw Moor, 087032. Hope the peat is dry as you head S for Crowden on the path, Slide down R near the end to hit the big quarry path, and don't forget to look for the clear stile on R, 073996?, which drops you down on clear paths to CP - 072995? Water.

It is now all flagged to CP on Bareholmes.067007. Steep, tussocky, tiring, but no chance of going wrong. From the CP contour W, stay level, and as you get round the spur064011? drop carefully and steeply to the brook, 062014? There's no easy way up to the R edge of Laddow, 057017, bracken, heather, etc, but people at the top are usually in sight, with water. Then follow the Pennine Way, paved at the end , to Black Hill. It's all flagged through the peat groughs to Holme Moss Top, ( though one year I may hide them all).
Water in the carpark, and it's flagged on the steep drop to find the path through the woods to the track, 105045. Now you just hope nothing is at stake, because it right drags on back to the finish, and stagger up the little hill to finish where Registration was.
