All,
An interesting MMA-type school has opened up about a mile from my home
(Houston Texas). I mention it as "interesting" WRT WMA because the core
art(s) of the place are modern wrestling/AAU styles. They also have the
obligatory BJJ and Kickboxing classes (I actually know the kickboxing guys
from my San Shou days).
Based on limited contact with some of the owner/operators, the place seems
to have as its major mission to help develop youth wrestling programs to
prepare athletes for High School and beyond. Its' secondary audience seems
to be white-collar/sub-urban type folks. I am not posting the link to their
site yet, not going to "promote" anyone I don't know well.
Anyway I plan on getting together with these folks soon, seems like a great
place to have some live bodies to train with, and be able to try out older
modes of pugilism and wrestling in a "live" and modern environment. Once we
get to know each other better, maybe these folks might have some interest in
looking at historical wrestling and pugilism.
All the Best,
Chris Amendola
