Re: [western-arts] Re: Silver & all

paul, i went to a recognized source [ brown ] on english martial arts. i
think it is interesting that term might be different but there is that type of
clearing movement[ to get around the tip of the other guys sword]----example if
someone is cutting at my left side of body [ lower leg] and i do not shift [
flip the leg] ---then i must guard or parry , and if i want to return the
blow at his left neck [ no .1 cut in british broadsword systems]----the weapon
has to prescribe a different motion than a straight line cut---and in these
broadsword lessons i have seen these returns. now what you are implying is
that english martial artist had no circular cuts until italian masters showed
them? this seems to be so---you keep on say after 1800, so you must be implying
some type of foreign influence? i do not think the circular parry/cut was
unknown to the english at all. where did mr. brown come up with these term? why
would he show these cuts [wrenches] and distinquish them from
throwing[straight cut]-----? hmm, i wonder?--ralph g.
