Last saturday Saurav probably played his last 50 over match. It was between bengal and Orissa. Bengal won and qualified as group champion. Saurav scored 36 in 40 balls.
The game ended in a sad note for both the teams. Orissa players were unhappy - not so much for losing, but for knowing that they witnessed the last of Dada, one of their favorites. The Bengal camp was also not upbeat in spirit, despite victory.
I came across this column and found it offhandedly ridicules sourav
without rhyme nor reason.

Friend pleas leave your comments at the end, and let every tom, dick
and harry know that we don't take this sort of thing lying low.
See the great turbinator taking chappel's wicket for his captain Dada.

Being a constant supporter of Sourav Ganguly, you may be happy to hear that the news of Sourav Ganguly archive at welovesourav.com has got its due attention from media. The first news of its kind has come in Bartamaan -the second largest selling Bengali news paper after Anandabazar , on 30th Jan,2009 -Friday.
Once the page opens, you need to scroll down to find the news.
The news has come in both Bartamaan's print and web version. It being in website of Bartamaan...we are hoping that a lot of bengali NRI's will be visiting the archive first and then they will circulate the news to other Sourav supporters.
We will try to get attention from other national dailies as well.
For our friends - who are not able to read Bengali, here is the translation:
Welovesourav.com has started the online archive on Sourav Ganguly. This archive will be beneficial to Cricket writers and those who believe in statistics and analysis. Few years back, Saptarshi from Bangalore had started the website on Sourav and with its increasing popularity over the years; the site has been converted into the archive. Different aspects of Maharaj's life and cricket will be covered by various cricket writers in this site.
I envy dada for one count, he as such a great friend in Viru!
Viru recently acknowldged Dada's captaincy and his support for
talented youngsters. Viru had earlier shown the courage to support
Dada during the latter's tough period even facing the ire of the
bosses at BCCI. So also had Bhajji remained true to his former captain.
So different from Yuvi, who became a renegade in the footsteps of
Dravid...
Hi dear friends, All IPL teams are selecting there foreign players. But already Sourav told in previous session, foriegn players not participate in whole session. So in that session our KKR selecting young cheer players.
Sourav select that players in spot. So in that session expension of KKR is very less.

The Sojourn of welovesourav.com: From a platform of protest to an online archive
Platform of protest
14th Dec, 2005 --- it was a black day in Indian cricket when India's most successful cricket captain Sourav Ganguly was shown a humiliating ouster from Indian squad in the 3rd test in Ahmedabad against Sri Lanka despite his good contribution in both the innings at Kotla, Delhi test.
Yes, Sourav was axed without any cricketing reason. The manner and modus operandi irked indeed all-true cricket lovers. Kolkata exploded obviously to the humiliation of her son of the soil. And that time support for Kolkata came from all corners of India.
It was the time when we two friends wanted to protest vehemently, too. But we wanted it through such a medium where protest would be long lasting and would unite cricket fraternity irrespective of distance and time zone. We wanted that rest of the cricket-loving world could view and vouch for our protest through a global platform.
Thanks to all those anti Ganguly writings in both electronic and print media that bolstered Dada's determination for a fairy tale comeback and our unyielding support for him. Had opposition not been there, we may not have even thought of this site!
The bottom line of our entire effort was to say the rest of the world: Truth must prevail….
And what a triumph it was! Truth had the last laugh with a thumping victory. The year 2007 was a defining year in cricket when Sourav Ganguly redefined the word 'comeback' for once and all and achieved coveted Castrol Asian player and batsman of the year award. Nevertheless the dream run of Sourav, Bizarre Community of collective idiosyncrasies (BCCI) eventually had the last say when its parochial politics and vested interest eventually coerced Sourav to hang his boot up. Sourav finally put an end to his career but it was truly like a prince with great élan in his swan song series against mighty Aussies.
Last three years, Welovesourav.com was a very close observer and analyst of Sourav's roller coaster ride and moreover was an evangelist who championed and catalyzed the glorious comeback of Maharaj by logically arguing in favour of Sourav in various forums with pertinent statistics. It had eventually a ripple effect and true statistics passed from one person to another. The site made a mark in online cricket world and all India media took a note of its relentless effort to amalgamate various sections of cricket lovers on a common thread – Sourav Ganguly.
Online Archive
Sourav's cricket odyssey may come to an end but welovesourav.com's endeavour does not stop.
Sourav Ganguly is an artist. His canvas is the twenty yards where he paints through his silken cover drive stroke using his bat as brush. The best tribute to such a demigod of Indian cricket will be something that will have an eternal impact to cricket fraternity.
Hence welovesourav.com like past, this time also comes forward to present cricket fraternity and Sourav Ganguly supporters and fans an online archive where all major statistics, awards, news, interviews, photo/video gallery of cricketer Sourav will be well showcased along with various articles and regular writings by eminent ex-cricketers and journalists. There will be regular discussion on Sourav Ganguly and his various aspects through columns and blogs. There are few more ideas in offing in future.
Not just sourcing news article, originality of write-ups, thought and action are the hallmarks of welovesourav.com and we are committed to our quality and endeavour to uphold the name of beloved Maharaj in front of cricket community.

We need your blessings, advice and active support to popularize the archive across entire cricket world.Kindly on behalf of us, inform and encourage your friend, professional, personal and other circles of people to visit the new avatar of -www.welovesourav.com .

Your encouragement is our inspiration!
Long Live cricketer Sourav Ganguly- Dada of Indian cricket!
The support to Dravid in spite of his deplorable form is also amazing
both from the BCCI as well as the team as compared to Dada's when he
was undergoing a lean patch (if I remember correctly, sourav's form
was not this bad) that too as a captain. Srinivasan who is now the
Secretary of the BCCI is also dravid's boss at India Cements. No
wonder he still gets all the support and the team also sings its
praises. Dravid is a classic example of 'what you sow, so you
reap'. He must take inspiration from Ganguly to come out of all this
mess who achieved greater heights thru his own grit n determination.
Sourav's open support to Dravid also shows his large heartedness
without any grouse (the fact that he has forgiven chappell itself is
truly amazing.

Due to my busy schedule, somehow i cldnt find time to write to this group, esp. during the period dada was retiring.
However, I dont agree with amit that this was the best farewell. I felt the farewell was not at all upto the mark befitting a former Indian captain. Kumble's farewell, though done hurriedly, was much better. I was disappointed on many counts :-
1.Sourav's family, i.e his wife n kid who were
present there were never invited to the ground. 2.Not a single Indian team member including captain dhoni were asked to talk abt sourav. 3.Sourav himself was not asked to give a farewell speech, which is the most important thing. 95% of the public that day had come to see him only.
Point no. 2 & 3 is the norm.
The abv are the least one cld do to a world-class batsman and that too a former indian captain. No wonder sourav cldnt take all this any more.
Somehow I hv noticed except his fans and the general public and the media, his teammates as well the BCCI are always guarded in their praise when it comes to sourav.
One more thing amit, I am not all impressed with Dhoni's behaviour on the last day with ganguly. MY immediate impression when I saw that on TV was he was trying to hog the limelight and it was not a genuine thing. Neither has he done anything with regard
to sourav any other time, for me to believe he did something great. It was definitely done with the intention of boosting his image.

That Shane Warne is a foul-mouthed fellow and every one knows it. He
wants to create sensation by saying all this.
He should be known as SHAME Warne !

MELBOURNE:Â Shane Warne has good things to say for almost all the top-100 cricketers of his choice in his book but could not camouflage his dislike for former India captain Sourav Ganguly in whom he found neither the hallmarks of a great batsman nor an extraordinary leader.
"Sourav Ganguly might not be my cup of tea as a bloke, but what he did for Indian cricket has to be respected," he said justifying the Indian's inclusion in his book 'Shane Warne's Century'.
"He is a feisty sort of character, not short of self-confidence or unaware of his standing in Indian life. He is regarded over there, especially around his teeming home city of Calcutta, as one of the greatest ever Indian captains. They won more games under him than anybody else, so I guess the statistics back that up. Personally, I am not so sure," he said. Â Â Â Â
"I think he had some outstanding players and solid characters in the team. Do you need to be a great leader to win games with Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Anil Kumble in the ranks. Tactically, he was not among the best leaders I came up against, and his management skills left a bit to be
desired." Â Â Â Â
Warne felt Ganguly was not outstanding as a batsman and said even minnows Bangladesh tried to encash on his vulnerability to short-pitched bowling. Â Â Â Â
"I think that every bowling attack in the world, even Bangladesh, has tried to get him with the short ball or has placed a couple of gullies for those left-handed slashes that he likes."Â
"Maybe his strength is in one-day cricket, where there are
strict rules on the use of bouncers... He can also play some glorious looking drives with perfect timing, like most of the Indian batmen," Warne said..
...But he did have the knack of rubbing up opponents (and even teammates when he went to Lancashire) the wrong way without seeming to try very hard.. Â Â Â Â
"When we arrived in India in 2000, in the middle of our really good run, he said that we had only beaten weak teams in the past. Funny, that, as India were one of them." Â Â Â Â
Warne also does not seem to have pardoned Ganguly for making then Australia captain Steve Waugh wait for the toss in the 2000 Kolkata Test. Â Â Â Â
"He would also be late for the toss and then walk off on his own without waiting for Steve Waugh, our captain. To be a minute or so behind because an issue crops up is one thing, but more than that is just taking the mickey. Â Â Â Â

Warne also took a dig at Ganguly, saying "Supporters know
him as the Prince of Calcutta'. The story is that he gave himself the nickname and it stuck." Â Â Â Â
