Re: [welovesourav] Just thinking aloud

My feeling is that this is a matter of ATTITUDE: after the humiliation for a year plus, he has changed his technique to slightly more on defensive side. That's why he was not found wanting against quality pace bowling in 1st and 3rd test against South Africa, but can't dominate the pace bowling in ODI to score fast and makes mistake, while getting impatient.

This is a malady that Chappell era has left and it affected not only him, but Sehwag and Sachin too. Good that Sachin is ultimately coming out of his shell. You see old videos of India's games during Dada's captainship: there was a different body language for Sehwag, Sachin, Dada while batting. They knew that if they take risk for the team and fail, there will be no witch hunting, at least from within.

And also you should note that for some reason or other, the trend of modern ODI that was for 300 plus, has come down. The wickets are not that friendly, for different reasons. In such wickets, the openers are not usually that successful. Look at South Africa, they also faced the same problems. Except India's 134 in 2nd ODI, there was no worthwhile 1st wicket stand in 3 ODIs for both sides.

Those who have seen Dada batting in the last two ODIs against Ntni and
Nel must have felt he was not at his best. Even in the ODIs when he
did well he has taken more to time to get settled. It has been oft
said he is best agains spinners and is susceptible to the fast ball
swinging/turning away from the off stump.

Then one wonders why he prefers opening innings instead of batting
lower down at 4 or 5? (like he does in tests) That is when the
spinners are brought in.

The puzzle is - his greatest innings have been while opening the
innings including the ones overseas.

Can any one throw light on this?
