Hi everyone,
First of all, a big thanks to UNR and Cody for putting on an
excellent race this past weekend. Those were true mountain bike
courses and we are lucky to have trails like that available.
If you talked to Hans at Reno you already know what I'm talking
about, but if not, please hear me out. Due to past "incidences", Hans
has informed many of us that mountain biking in the WCCC is
essentially on probation, through the higher powers-that-be, not him.
As a result, we are making a strong effort to manage the risks
involved with the Parkfield weekend, but we also need your help.
Please inform your teams of the no fires rule, and make it clear to
them that if the race organizers and officials determine that their
behavior is unnecessarily risky or potentially offensive we have no
choice but to ask people to leave. The fun will still go on, but we
can't have inebriated people jumping flaming piles of cardboard on
pixie bikes, in the dark, with no helmet.
Pass it on to your teams this week, preferably in person at team
meetings (instead of via email) to communicate the importance.
Officers, please make an effort at self policing to make sure your
racers are behaving in a responsible and sane manner. The Wheelmen
will do our best to keep everything safe and friendly, but any help
is greatly appreciated. Hans can correct me if I'm wrong, but
essentially the existance of mountain biking in our conference is at
serious risk if any incident occurs.
Thanks for your help in keeping mountain biking in the WCCC, and I
hope to see you all at Parkfield Friday night.
