Hi All,
I hope you are all doing well and looking forward to UCB's race
weekend. I have decided to make two changes to this weekend's crit.
After the success of our very first track event on the road, the
street sprints at UCSC, I have decided that we should have another
road event run under track rules. To that end I have decided that
UCB's infamous art museum crit will be run as a miss-and-out race.
Please make sure all your riders review section 2E in the USA Cycling
rule book with regards to the format of this race. The course for this
crit will be perfect since its about .45 miles and since lap times
usually average 35-45 seconds. I think this will be a very exciting
addition to this already torturous crit, since now it pays not to sit
at the back when you pass the finish line. Everybody better dust off
their uphill sprinting legs, because I want to be entertained!
The second change for the crit center's around nationals
qualification. Under rule 7K2c of the collegiate rule book, it is my
responsibility to allocate our nationals start spots. In the past we
have used the season long points totals of the men's and women's A
races to determine which teams and individuals will go. But I feel
this system is old and tired and I want to spice things up! So to
that end, since this is my dictatorship, the category A races at the
UCB art museum crit will be the sole race used for nationals
qualification.
When I talked to Daniel Matheny, national collegiate cycling manager
and my boss, he was all for the idea. He said, "If all goes well I
will see that this rule be implemented across the country. What
better way to decided who goes to nationals than to base selection on
a miss-and-out on a brutal crit course. It should be very exciting
and I wish I could be there to see it!"
So with Daniel's blessing we are a go. The only way you can qualify
for nationals as a team/individual will be your team's performance in
Sunday's A crits. So good luck to all our A's racers. Sunday is
going to be pretty awesome to watch! Make sure you bring your energy
bars, I know I will ;-)
Please make sure all your riders not on the WCCC list see this and
prepare accordingly! Sunday's crit should have all the drama we've
come to expect from collegiate racing in the WCCC. Last year we had a
corner-of-death at the conferences crit and this year a miss-and-out
will decide who goes to nationals!!
thanks and let me know if you have any questions
HH
