Hello All,
I hope you are all getting pumped about the start of the road season
this weekend in San Diego. In preparation for the races, I just
wanted to stress one key point. ALL riders MUST race in the category
listed on their license. This is extremely important. I do random
checks of the results for an event to make sure everybody reg'd in the
correct category. If I find that you raced out of category I will
disqualify your result and remove any team points you may have earned.
This could greatly alter team results for the weekend which would
piss off your teammates and ruin all their hard work. Also if you
just race in the category listed on your license it will make the
promoter's life easier since I am going to be penalizing their team as
well if I find that riders are racing out of category. So to avoid
these situations, just race in the category listed on your license.
And one last point, just because you have applied online for an
upgrade doesn't mean you can race in that upgraded category. You must
wait for confirmation that your upgrade has been approved before
racing in your new category. Please make sure all your teams see this
email, as I don't want there to be any problems with either your
racers or that the promoters have to deal with. If riders think they
are deserving for upgrades, please have them apply online through the
USA cycling website as soon as possible to make sure they all get
processed before you leave for this weekends races.
The only two valid forms of proof of category are a 2009 USA Cycling
collegiate license or a non-expired authorization to ride that can be
printed from the USA cycling website.
Just as a refresher we in the WCCC operate on a slight more structured
category system than what is defined in the USA Cycling Collegiate
Rule Book.
Here are the WCCC guidelines for upgrading:
For the Men:
-->To go from D->C, you need a minimum of 5 mass start races.
These can be collegiate and/or USCF races.
-->To go from C->B, you need a minimum of 10 mass start races, 15 points,
or a category 4 road license.
The 10 mass start races includes your first 5 from above and they can
be collegiate or USCF races.
Points allocations are described in the USCF rules for category upgrades.
Please see this link and scroll down to the point allocation tables
for Crits and RRs.

Again both collegiate and USCF races can be used.
-->To go from B->A, you need a category 3 road license or 20 points.
Points are defined in the above link.
For the Women:
I am treating both D's and C's are as C's.
-->To go from D/C->B, you need to have completed at least 5 mass start races.
-->To go from B->A, you need a category 3 road license or 20 points.
Points are defined in the above link.
If you have any questions please let me know,
thanks for reading!
