Pulliam Wins Limited Sportsman Race; Deadlocks Points Race
Lee Pulliam of Semora, N.C. entered Saturday night's 50-lap Limited
Sportsman Division race trailing two-time and defending Limited
Sportsman Division champion, Bruce Anderson of South Boston, Va. by
seven points in the chase for the track's Limited Sportsman Division
crown.
Pulliam did exactly what he needed to do – win the race.
Starting on the pole, Pulliam led all 50 laps of the race, edging
Anderson in a 10-lap sprint to the finish that followed the last of the
race's two caution periods. The win was the sixth of the season and the
second in a row for Pulliam.
Pulliam's margin of victory was 1.432 seconds.
The win by Pulliam and the second-place finish by Anderson unofficially
created a tie for first place in the division points standings. The
championship will be decided in the season's final race on September 13.
Danny Willis Jr. of Cluster Springs, Va., Tommy Peregoy of Red Oak, Va.
and JEB BURTON of Halifax rounded out the top five finishers.
Pulliam averaged 48.491 mph in the race that took 24 minutes and 55
seconds to complete.
