Minutes from the 2/16/06 meeting
1. Welcome
Dave handed out a packet of information. If you were not at the
meeting, please contact him to receive a copy. It includes the
contact list, waiver templates, and field permits.
2. Calendar
Matt Barr, BCC captain, is arranging the schedule this year and has
already sent out an email requesting more information from teams.
3. Game Times
We may repeat last year’s schedule:
2 games run from 11 to 1
2 games run from 12 to 2
2 games run from 1 to 3
2 games run from 2 to 4
Games starting before 11am run into sleep and church time and games
after 4pm run into homework and dinner time, so if there are more
than 8 games scheduled (which could happen if every team is available
to play) then overflow games can be scheduled at Montgomery Hills,
which is about a mile south of Sligo.
4. Gender ratios
There are three all-boy schools (Georgetown Prep, Landon, Heights)
and iwe considered having girls from other schools play on those
teams but the consensus seemed to be that would not be necessary.
5. UPA registration
Last year league dues were $250 per team. UPA (the Ultimate Players
Association) is the national ultimate governing body. There are a
small handful of teams that could compete nationally, and for that
UPA registration (which is $20 per student per year) is required. So
Dave suggested that we reduce the league registration fee and instead
register players with the UPA. Consensus did not seem to be reached,
and Dave said that he would follow up with Chris Hulett, who is our
main contact with WAFC, our local sponsoring organization.
6. Other
Ben Van Heuvelen, Sidwell Coach, was certified last summer by the UPA
to train ultimate coaches. He will be running a coaches clinic on
April 8th for the DC area. Several captains and coaches in the room
said they planned to attend. Details to follow.
7. Things to do:
…reply to Matt Barr’s email with scheduling info asap. Our goal is to
have the first two pre-Easter games scheduled by March 13.
…Send a check to Washington Area Frisbee Club / 1808 North Quantico
Street / Arlington, VA 22205 by March 3rd. The amount of the check
will be announced soon.
…Make copies of the waiver form and hand them out to your players.
Once you have received a waiver from all of your players, mail the
waivers to the above Quantico Street address. Please include your
school name on the waivers.
