Hello this is Denny agian!
Thank your for Roger St. Arneault and Billy to answer
the post!
Sensie Haryo will agree a lot with Roger, he is also
trying to learn from other styl as much as he can. He
is good with Goju Kata as well. But, like Roger, in
the Karate world his love is Wado, learning other
style's Kata and movements is only to broaden his
experience. If you talk to him about Kata, he will go
down to the tatami and perform many types of Kata for
you, whether it is Okinawan, Shitoryu, or Gojuryu. But
he does not forget his Wado, he still moves with Wado
movements when peforming Wado Kata.
To Billy, I think it is a loss if we as Wado stylist
does not study the Jujutsu portion of the art, such as
the Idori, the Tantodori, etc. Luckily, with the help
of modern technology, we could purchase the videos of
grandemasters such as Mr. Suzuki, Mr. Jiro Otsuka and
others. But off course videos cannot replace actual
instruction with the masters!
I think the masters who studied with Otsuka Saikoh
Shihan are very old now (Taman sensei himself is 65+
now) and a couple of decades from now they all will be
gone. So we have to act now to preserve "unknown" part
of Wado heritage.
