West Potomac, at 6500 Quander Road, Alexandria, VA 22307, is a
multi-building campus. We will be in the auditorium of Springbank, a
standalone building on the left as you face the school. It has its own
parking lot. If you come off Route #1 onto Quander Rd, take the second
entrance to the school (right turn at the low brick school sign on the
corner, not at the pylon sign). If you are coming off Beacon Hill/Belle
View Boulevard onto Quander Rd, take a left at the 1st entrance to the
school. The parking lot is the first one on your left, next to
Springbank.
If you do enter at the pylon sign, just drive all the way in until you
have to turn left ... you will then be facing the Springbank Building.
The parking lot is to the left.

Yes,
this is important. There are NCAA enforced
guidelines for college visits, summer jobs, and for other contacts
which are
seldom violated by colleges but can be by well-meaning alumni.
Parents
of scholar-athletes need to know that their child is
taking on a responsibility akin to a job that will take up to 36-hours
per week, with some absences from class (which not all
professors tolerate well), with some control by the athletic dept. over
how
many and which courses a student may take, and with real limitations on
academic
break activities (e.g. practice during winter and spring breaks
preclude jobs,
interviews, experiential travel).The
36 hours is NCAA’s limitation on the amount of time the
students may be required to participate in practice and team meetings.
I
know it’s true for track and for crew. I assume it’s a
blanket guideline.
I don’t think Scott has had this problem of absence from
class for sanctioned travel, but his sister was prevented from
graduating summa
by a professor who dropped her course grade as a result of a class
absence for
a competition (the competition that won the conference tournament).
We’ll
see what happens when he goes to San Diego this spring.
On
the up side—athletic departments
monitor grades, require study halls, and if used properly provide good
general
conditioning, and arrange priority registration for classes.
My
recommendation is that sophomore parents need this and junior
parents must have it.

attention by
Howard Seamens, our VASRA

athletes.

The W-L Crew coaching staff would like to invite rowing alumni to work out with the team during our winter conditioning program. We feel that your addition will provide motivation to our younger rowers and give you an opportunity to reconnect with the team, or show off your college gear.
This invitation is for working out, not socializing. We request that all alumni contact the coaching staff prior to attending. You are welcome to do our workout, or follow the plan that your college coach has given you. We look forward to you joining us.
Does anyone have a pressure washer? Could I use it? Need to clean launches with
it.

A little update for all regarding Winter Conditioning. Conditioning normally runs from 3:30 to 5:30 pm. However when we are using the weight room the practice time adjusts and goes until 6pm. This is to accommodate teams that are in season. Unfortunately I can not change this as this came down from the strength coach we use for conditioning. The boys and girls teams use the weight room ever other week on Monday's, Wednesday's and Friday's. This week falls on the girls team. Winter Conditioning is not mandatory but highly encouraged. If your athletes needs to leave early or show late. it is best to let their coach know of this. This becomes good practice for the season in the Spring. Thanks and sorry for the inconvenience.

Kinda wierd to say but I've just added a folder in the gallery for the 3rd decade I've been a part of W-L Crew as a coach. There is now a folder for 2010-2019. Images from one of our Open Houses has been added thanks to Joann Sierra.
Reminder if you have any images taken that you would like me to add please let me know.

hmm.... A MILLION METERS!? =-O
maybe I need to adjust my expectations of how much we use our erg at
home.... :-\
Does it count if you THINK about using it a million times.... 8-)
Thanks so much to all the rowers who participated in the wreath fundraiser!
Attached is a list of all rowers from whom I received orders. Please review for accuracy and let me know immediately if there are discrepancies between your records and mine. I plan to submit our orders to
the wreath vendor tomorrow. For those wreaths that will be rower-delivered, I will let you know in a future email the date and time that you can pick up from my house.

I hope everyone is doing well. This season I had thought to make VHSL(Virginia High School League) physicals mandatory for Winter Conditioning but that fell through the cracks.
However I am going to push you all to get this done by the first of the year because it's important and stops us in our tracks until we have 100% of the physicals turned in.
I plan to start keeping track and pushing. After the 1st of the year I may keep athletes from participating in winter conditioning if the number of physicals that are turned in is too low.
This is something that happens every single year. Each year, each student, must have a current physical on file with the school in order to participate in school sponsored sports activities. EVERY YEAR. There is no reason to wait on this. If it hasn't already been taken care of please look at attending the offer of school based physicals, info below. Takes only a short time and it's done!
A current VHSL physical for the 2009-20010 school year is: one that was completed after May 2009 and is on file with the school.
Every year there are too many students who either show up without a physical on file or who wait too long and they loose participation time because the season starts and they still haven't gotten this taken care of.
Please, please get this done now if you haven't already done so. If your son or daughter has gotten a physical by your doctor but has yet to complete a VHSL physical all you need to do is have the doctor file out the physical portion(you already got that done) of the form and them YOU file out the remainder of the information and submit it to the school.
