All,

The girl's team will be racing at the Occoquan this Thursday. Our

give the coaches an idea of how the season is progressing. The details
are
below:

Departure Time: 6:00 a.m. from the Quincy St. side of Washington-Lee
Scrimmage begins at 8 a.m. The varsity boats will do four 1K pieces.
The
novice boats will do two 1k pieces.
Estimated Return Time: 1 p.m. at the Quincy St. side of Washington-Lee

Please be aware that the weather forecasts is for significantly colder
weather. Please plan appropriately and bring plenty of clothes. A warm

change of clothes following the race is definitely advised. Also, you
should plan to bring food and drink as a post-scrimmage snack.

available via email or on my cell phone, (703) 862-9866.

Best,

Paul

Everyone: it seems like the instructions (below) that I sent out to all of you on Monday did not reach all of you, so I'm re-sending these instructions via the listserv:

Instructions for Cherry Blossom Regatta Volunteers: David, Scott, Tom, Stuart, Linda, Charise, John H., John L., Lisa, Ann, Joyce, and Suzanne

W-L Volunteers: I’m sending this note to remind all of twelve of you about your assignments at the Cherry Blossom regatta this coming weekend.  Attached to this note you’ll find a Word document with your assignments and shift times in case you have misplaced this information.  Please be aware that the National Capitol Area Scholastic Rowing Association (NCASRA), the organization that coordinates all aspects of the Georgetown and Occoquan regattas, will fine W-L Crewboosters $50 for each volunteer that does not show up, but the point is not the money; it is the need for parent volunteers to do these jobs if regattas are to be run safely and smoothly.

Below I provide instructions for first timers or for anyone who needs a review.  For everyone it is important to note that the large commercial parking lot on Water Street adjacent to the Georgetown regatta site is no longer available due to construction – which means that parking has gone from difficult to very, very difficult.  Therefore please plan to arrive far in advance of your shift to search out alternatives, or make arrangements to be dropped off, so that you can start your shift on time.

Please call me at 703-527-0303 (home) or 571-276-6632 (cell) should you have any further questions about your assignment.  Donna Roberts, W-L volunteer coordinator

Instructions:

First

Arrive early (see note on parking above).

Second

Volunteers should first report to the Volunteer Sign-In Coordinator seated at a table outside or inside regatta headquarters at Thompson’s boat house.  You will need to sign an attendance roster (it will help to know your job number, which is indicated in the attachment to this e-mail) and the insurance waiver.  The Coordinator will then point you toward your job location/assignment where an experienced volunteer will show you what needs to be done.  Sign in at regatta headquarters early enough to be able to be at your assigned job location at the time the job is to start, not when the regatta is to start.

Directions to Thompson’s boat house can be found on the W-L crew website at http://www.w-lcrew.org//directions.html .  Once there, the sign-in site is reached by foot from the Thompson’s parking lot off Virginia Ave.  At the Rock Creek Parkway or by foot from the waterfront at the foot of Georgetown, walk past the circle at the foot of 30th St. and past the fenced shell storage lot.  Sign in at the table opposite the far bays at the top of the launch ramps, just around the corner from the Thompson’s office entrance.

Third

Be flexible.

The Regatta Director sometimes finds it necessary to reassign volunteers to another job based on specific requirements or sudden last minute changes.  Also, please stay at your position until your replacement has shown up or the assignment is completed.

Fourth

Dress appropriately.

Anticipate inclement weather and the likelihood of getting wet.  Wear layered clothing.  Consider a hat, sunscreen, gloves, and footwear for slippery surfaces.  Do not wear red clothing while performing jobs.

From Booster Co-President Lyn Moriarity…..

Please join us in Georgetown for the first regatta of the season this Saturday.  Home regattas provide a great opportunity to get to know other crew families and to enjoy our historic boathouse.  For those of you new to W-L crew, note that viewing from the porch at PBC is terrific, but if you want to see the end of the race you should be at the finish line (at the park opposite the Georgetown movie theaters) before the race begins.  Purchase a NCASRA 2007 program near the finish line; the back cover will show the oar blades for each school so you can see which boats are on the water throughout the season.

What to bring on Saturday: your food donations for the cookout, sunscreen and a hat, binoculars, and your checkbook or cash to purchase optional W-L crew clothing and hats or visors for you or your rower and to pay for a unisuit.  Don't forget quarters for the parking meters if you plan to park on the street.

The race schedule changed Thursday afternoon.  Check the new schedule at www.w-lcrew.org or at www.ncasra.org.  The first women's race is now at 10 am; the first men's race is at 10:40.  The last race of the day is scheduled to begin at 1:46.

Go W-L!!

As veteran parents know and novice parents will soon find out, it will take a lot of food and beverages to help our W-L rowers sustain their energy levels and perform their best this Saturday.  Please consider contributing generously to our pot-luck breakfast/lunch by donating food & beverages that will serve 8-10 people.  Grilled hot dogs and hamburgers will also be provided.  Donations can be left at PBC on Saturday morning.  We need the following:

A-F:  Fruit (send with rower or deliver by 8 am)

E-M:  Side dishes/salads (deliver by 11 am)

N-S:  Bagels/beverages (send with rower or deliver by 8 am)

T-Z:  Desserts/granola bars (deliver by 11 am)

Please remember that everyone is welcome to view the races & eat at PBC.  Hope to see you there!

Hi All,

I just got called to be an extra in the Nicholas Cage movie being filmed here, and, naturally, the dates conflict with my dock sitting (April 10 & 11). Is there anyone who can trade with me? I’m scheduled for April 11. I can do any other day. Thanks.

Mimi Veis

P.S. On another movie note, would anyone happen to have a kimono I could borrow? The casting director would like to cast me as the Japanese diplomat’s wife for a gala scene, but I would need to provide my own kimono.

March 26

Dear All W-L Crew Parents,

Dock sitters--please make sure you start your dock sitting duty at the
W-L Quincy parking lot.
Parents need to be at the school in order to transport back packs for
the rowers that run down to the boat house.
There is a list of dock sitting duties at the bottom of this e-mail.
If there are problems or ways one sees the dock sitting duty can be
improved please let me know.

We have all the volunteer jobs for dock sitting filled.
Thanks to everyone for doing your part.

If anyone needs to change, please try to switch dates with someone
else
on the list, and let me know about the switch. Send me an e-mail (

DOCK SITTING
Potomac Boat Club
3530 Water Street, NW
Georgetown

DOCK SITTING JOB DESCRIPTION

3:00-6:00 pm daily

A parent volunteer is needed at the Potomac Boat Club (PBC) each day
of
practice to help in case of an emergency while coaches are on the
water
with rowers, and to supervise rowers in the boathouse.

Bring quarters (for parking), your own water, binoculars if you like,
a cell phone, and a lawn chair. PBC has a wireless internet
connection,
in case you want to set up a laptop. Dress for the weather that day;
it
is always a few degrees cooler on the water.

Arrive at W-L at 3:00 pm, park in the administration parking lot on
Quincy Street, and inform the coach that you are there. Be prepared to
transport backpacks for team members who are running down to the boat
house. Drive to PBC and wait in front of the boathouse until the
rowers
arrive and retrieve their back packs.

Find a legal parking spot, go inside the boat house and check in with
the head coaches. Check in again with the coaches as the boats go on
the water; rowers not going on the water may need adult supervision.
Walk through the boathouse a couple of times during practice. Report
any potential safety problems or misbehavior to the coaches, the
Booster presidents or the AD as appropriate.

Dock sitters generally leave by 6:00 pm.

Could you please let us know:

1) As announcer, where and when does my husband have to report?
2) As results writer, where and when does Ed Fendley have to report?

I need to leave town tomorrow for a family emergency. I am slated to do crew results on Saturday from 8:-12:30. It is an easy fun job.
I would have my husband do it but he is already slated to be the announcer.
Is there anyone that can switch with me for another Saturday?
Thanks,
Ann Tutundjian

All the new unisuits will arrive on Wednesday April 11, just in time for the April 14 regatta.  The new suits are $70, and you must pay one of the people listed below BEFORE we can give you a suit.   Next week is spring break, so please plan ahead so your suit is paid for well before April 14.

You can give a check for $70 (payable to WL Crew Boosters) or cash to Ms. Susan Cabiati, Ms. Lyn Moriarity or Mr. Jack Goodman or any parent at the WL clothing/gear sales table this weekend at the Cherry Blossom regatta.  You can also give me your payment @ WL at 6:15 p.m. every day the week after spring break.  If you don’t know me, ask Luke or Grace Vinson.

I found someone to switch with me on April 11. But I’m still looking for a kimono.

Send me an e-mail (
simkinat@aol.com ) or call (703 528-4842) if there are any questions.
Thanks,
-Bess

DOCK SITTING
Potomac Boat Club
3530 Water Street, NW
Georgetown

DOCK SITTING JOB DESCRIPTION

3:00-6:00 pm daily

A parent volunteer is needed at the Potomac Boat Club (PBC) each day
of
practice to help in case of an emergency while coaches are on the
water
with rowers, and to supervise rowers in the boathouse.

Bring quarters (for parking), your own water, binoculars if you like,
a cell phone, and a lawn chair. PBC has a wireless internet
connection,
in case you want to set up a laptop. Dress for the weather that day;
it
is always a few degrees cooler on the water.

>My name is Ryan Sparks, and I am writing to you in regards to men's rowing

>The university has traditionally been regarded as one of the utmost
