All,
I've been contacted by a few of you asking for more information on Fall
Rowing. ODBC has already started but I believe there may still be time for
you to look into it. There is a tryout process and then cuts...if needed.
The website for information is http://tcwcrew.org/odbc/odbc.html
Thompson's Boat Center also has a competitive and developemental level
programs. Thompson's this past summer won both the Men's Jr. Eight and Men's
Jr. 4(Scott Herring '06 was on both boats) at USRowing Championships. The
website for information is http://www.thompsonboatcenter.com/compprog.htm
Both programs have Women's and Men's Programs.
ODBC started Sept. 28th
Thompson's started Aug. 4th
please let me know if you have any quesitons.
Derek

I will be out of the office starting 08/24/2006 and will not return until
09/05/2006.
I will be checking my email intermittently, but may not be able to respond
until my return. Thank you.
The Crew captains want to remind all of us Boosters that tomorrow (August 26) will be our last opportunity this summer to get our cars washed and help support the team. With all the dust this month, even those of us who got our cars washed earlier this summer could use a repeat visit. So please consider stopping by:
Saturday, August 26, 10am-4pm
W-L High School (Quincy Street entrance)
And rowers, please check in with one of the captains to get your assignment for tomorrow.
All,
I just wanted to send this note from Matt Madigan who is an elite coach at
PBC. Matt has been very supportive of Washington-Lee Crew. He has gone out
and helped here and there with our boats in the past. His wife Katie
Madigan(then Katie Petrock) coached our Men's Novices in 2001. Matt and
Katie are both former National Team rowers. If any of you are looking to
give tax-deductible donations before the years end, this would be a worthy
cause.

Hey there W-L Crew!
I just wanted to send everyone some props for keeping this W-L fundraising
tradition alive. The car washes are a relatively easy and fun way to make your
fundraising goals happen. A big "good job" to your captains for keeping things
organized. They do need YOUR help to make it happen. Its your crew to make huge
things happen with. Build on last season and run with it. One last thing to keep
in mind, several years ago when we had just gotten this fundraiser off the
ground the team made close to $2000 at one car wash! So go for it, and good
luck! Peace.

Vito for his hard work and consistent efforts while maintaining a good attitude,
it would have been much more difficult and much less enjoyable without him to
help out. We were pretty disappointed with the turnout of rowers, thinking we
could have been more efficient had we been able to utilize more hands. We have
two more scheduled (the last two saturdays of august) and are hoping to schedule
two in september due to the cancelled car wash and the poor turn out. PLEASE
please please try to let us know about scheduling conflicts in advance, if we
schedule a car wash envisioning a full team of help, and end up short, things
get hectic. Thanks, see you soon

Hope you're all ready for another day of fun, because the second carwash is scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, August 12th from 10-4. Since the last carwash was cancelled due to inclament weather, it is REALLY important that everyone comes for at least one shift, ready and willing to work hard. You should expect a phone call sometime today from a captain to sign you up for a shift.
See you all tomorrow on the Quincy side of W-L!
Stay in the know. Pulse on the new Yahoo.com. Check it out.
Hello Everyone,
Some of you know the drill and others don't. So I'll try to keep it short.
During the fall Washington-Lee cannot run a program(YET...we are working on
being able to run a novice only program in the fall). The opportunities to
row in our area are from Thompson's and ODBC(Old Dominion Boat Club)
Thompson's and ODBC are both competitive. I'll leave it to the kids to fight
over who is 'faster', 'more fun' or 'better time'.
Thompson's program is more expensive the ODBC. Thompson's has different
level of programs. ODBC program is a tryout program. Not everyone may make
the racing boats. I'm not going to get into the details of each program but
I am leaving you the websites. The more opportunity you get to practice your
skills the better you will become. Its as simple as that. If there are
athletes out there who are not already looking at doing another sport this
fall...you might want to look at rowing to keep in shape, work on your
skills and get more overall experience. Three months each spring is really
not a lot of time to be the best you can be at anything.

IF you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

All,
I know many of you have already made plans to row this fall. I've gotten a
few questions about transportation from a couple of parents. It would be
great if those parents who have kids could work together to help each other
out. This communicate and let each other know how everyone is planning to
get there. Fall rowing requires that all athletes get to practice on their
own, there is no bus to get them there. I don't know how you would start
this but if everyone sends me a note with all the kids rowing this fall and
I can use this to direct parents to other families rowing.

Hello all,
I hope your summer is going well. I hope to start updating the website again
soon. I have some updates from the car washes to put up and information
about US Nationals where some of our rowers competed. The only results I
know about off the top of my head are Scott Herring won in the Intermediate
8 and the Junior Four with Thompson's and Zach Allen placed 4th in the
C-double with PBC. I know Christina Cabiati, Ellen Macnamara and Anne
Moriarity are rowing for Thompson's but I'm not sure about the results or if
they competed.
But back to the reason I wrote to you all. I am headed out of town Friday
for a week's vacation and I need a pet sitter for my fish and iguana. I just
need someone to feed them once a day. I'll pay cash or send to money to the
boosters for rent a rower. Please let me know if you are interested.
Hope you all are having fun...no matter what you are doing...and what you
are doing is keeping you in shape.

Dear Coaches, Parents and Athletes:
As some of you may have already heard the President and the Board of Governor's of RutgersUniversity have decided to cut the Men's Heavyweight and Lightweight rowing programs after the 2006-2007 season. As many of you know this has been brought on by response to the Corzine Budgets cuts.
A good friend of mine, Jeff Klepacki, (KearnyHigh School 86’ - Rutgers class of '90 and 3 time Olympian '92, '96 & '00) has asked the NJ Scholastic Association for it's support. Without hesitation I offered to help get this information out to as many in the rowing community as possible.
Many of us have coached athletes that have attended Rutgers. This situation will affect many high school athletes with the hope of attending Rutgers to continue to row, this will no longer be an option.
Rutgers needs your support! Please go to www.friendsofrutgerscrew.org/ They are asking that you send letters supporting the rowing program to the President and copies sent to Coach Steve Wagner. Feel free to write to your Senator and NJ Assemblymen as well in support of saving Rutgers Crew.Information is located on the website listed above.

Hello Crew Family! Your W-L Crew Boosters executive committee has
been busy planning for the 2006-2007 year, and the captains and rowers
already are hard at work earning funds to help cover the many expenses
of the crew program. As you know, crew requires the participation
of coaches, rowers and parents to be successful.
I am attaching a list of most of the major volunteer jobs that must be
filled by parents and friends of W-L crew. Some of these
positions require a commitment over many months, but others are
one-time activities. Most will be made easier if many helpers are
recruited to lighten the load.
Participating in crew activities is fun and rewarding! Please
volunteer for a position that interests you. If you know of
others who might be interested, particularly novice parents, let us
know. Please contact one of the following executive committee
members to volunteer or to ask about any of the jobs listed.
Thanks in advance for helping to make this another great crew year!
I will be out of the office starting 07/13/2006 and will not return until
07/17/2006.
In my absence, please contact the following individuals for matters
requiring my attention:
Byron Lee .............. for Country Office related issues
M. Yahyazadeh ............... for LAN and Network issues
Youssef Youssef .............. for Citrix issues
Ramesh Naravulu ........... for Server issues
Just a friendly reminder, we have another carwash at Washington Lee this coming Saturday. We have decided to change the times of the carwash in hopes of raising more money. This Saturday's carwash will be from 10 to 4 and shifts will run from 10 to 1 and 1 to 4. We hope to see more rowers this weekend especially the morning shift. Remember that you are getting fundraising credit for your help!!
The first W-L Crew car wash of the summer is underway today at W-L, on the Quincy Street side, until 3pm. It could use more dirty cars and also more rowers to relieve those on the early shift.
If you can't make it today, you have another chance next Saturday, July 15, from 9 to 3 again at the Quincy Street entrance.
I will be out of the office starting 07/03/2006 and will not return until
07/07/2006.
I will be checking my email intermittently, but may not be able to respond
until my return. Thank you.
Hope everyone's not too worn out by this summer heat (and rain?) because it's about that time again. The very first carwash is scheduled for this Saturday, July 8th on the Quincy side of W-L. We have the bus lane reserved from 9-3, so it is expected that everyone shows up for one of the shifts: 9-12 or 12-3. Again, it is really important that we do all we can to start this season's fundraising off to a good start so please be sure to make an appearance and tell your family and friends to bring some dirty cars!
In the meantime, pray to the weather gods for sunny skies on Saturday and clear your schedules!
All,
The season has continued for Thomas Jefferson as they participted in the
2006 Royal Henley Regatta. They lost in the 3rd Round(Quarter Finals) to
King's School in Chester by 2/3 of a length. If you are interested in
following the results here is link to the draw and results.

Mount St. Joes(USA) competed in the Women's Henley. They made it past the
1st round but were knocked out by Oakland(usa). It was an all USA final with
Oakland Strokes(USA) winning the event.

Hope you all are having a great summer.
