Hello All,

I hope the holidays are treating everyone well. I have a request to find a
new home for a very loving 3 year old tabby female cat 'Sally'. My wife Kate
has a cat that she must try and find a good home for. It seems that she is
very allergic to cats and she is now dealing with stronger allergies then
when she first got the cat. Brooke, my daughter, is not very happy with this
choice so I thought I would start with you all because she may still be able
to visit her. They got Sally as a kitten and she is very loved at her home
right now. She is an indoor cat with no issues...other then she likes to
eat.

If anyone is interested in helping us out please let me know. Kate lives in
Fairfax City and you are more then welcome to come by and visit to see if
you would like to give her a new home.

All,

Greg will have the fridge open from 10-12 for a workout tomorrow, Friday.
All the boys...except those that were at today's practice, that being Daniel
Michaelson and Kris Runvald(Ryan and Eric were the novices), should attend
tomorrow for missing today's practice. We did 5 by 4k and recorded the
workout in the log book. HR 160-168, Rest 8-10min and 20-24 spm.

Next Week

The fridge will be open and ready for workouts from 10-2(noon) Tuesday thru
Friday. All are welcome and everyone is encouraged to attend if they can.

If I don't see you until next year...have a great
Christmas/Honokaa/Quanza(sp?)/Winter/Holiday Break. Hope to see you all next
year.

All,

I have added a link for Goodsearch.com to our website. It is a search engine
powered by Yahoo.com that will give back, organizations that register with
them, money back for each search you do. So please help out W-L Crew and
search using Goodsearch.com. W-L Crew Boosters, Inc. is already registered.

http://www.w-lcrew.org

Derek

Steps to use Goodsearch.com and support your favorite charity or school
whenever you search the Internet. Here's how:
1. Enter the charity or school you support below, then click "Verify".
2. Search the Internet from the box above.
3. Each time you search, revenue is generated for your charity or school!

Goodsearch FAQs: http://www.goodsearch.com/About.aspx#faq

How does it work?
On the GoodSearch homepage, choose from hundreds of thousands of
organizations or add your favorite cause to our list. Search the Internet
just like you normally would — the site is powered by Yahoo!, so you'll get
the same high-quality search results you're accustomed to. A percentage of
the revenue generated from advertisers is shared with the charity, school or
nonprofit organization of your choosing. Are the search results going to be
as good as the search engine I am using now?
Absolutely. GoodSearch.com is powered by Yahoo! so you'll get the same
high-quality search results that you're currently used to — or better!

How much money could this generate for my charity or school?
We estimate that each search will generate approximately $0.01 for the
designated charity or school. Thus:

A small charity or school with 100 supporters searching twice a day would
receive $730 per year.
A mid-sized charity or school with 1,000 supporters searching twice a day
would receive $7,300 per year. And finally, a large charity or school with
10,000 supporters searching twice a day would receive $73,000 per year. The
sky is the limit. The more people use GoodSearch, the more money will be
directed towards causes. There is no cap on how much money we will direct to
charities.

All,

Vespoli one of our boat manufacturers is holding a Coxswain Clinic in
Fairfax on January 27 & 28th. The clinic will be the 28th and there will be
a rigging seminar on the 27th. The cost is $90 for the clinic and $45 for
the rigging. The cost is $115 for both.

I would encourage anyone thinking about coxing or currently coxing to attend
if at all possible. There are few chances for coxswains to get practical
information to do their job better.

Hello everyone,
As the holiday approach, we are all getting busy. Keep in mind your
W-L Crew fundraising goal of $400 ($100 for novice).

FYI the actual cost per rower is closer to $1,000 to make our budget,
but everyone works together to make it happen.

I will be in the cafeteria/commons on Tuesday, Wednesday, and
Thursday right after school, 3:15 for any rowers that want to
participate in our Friends and Family campaign. It's easy, just
bring envelopes, stamps, and addresses for anyone you wish to send a
letter asking for a donation to be made in rower, tax deductible, of
course. 100% goes toward rower's fundraising goal.

!!!! NEW FUNDRAISER !!!!

Start your internet searches at www.goodsearch.com
Put in Washington-Lee Crew Boosters, Inc. in the I'm supporting box.

That's it. It looks like a pretty good search engine. Many area
crew boosters have signed up, and so have we. Each time you search
using this site, revenue is generated for W-L

Go W-L!

All,

The Holidays are coming up quickly. If you don't know what to get a teenage
rower, I have a few suggestions. I know it won't make them too excited but
how about CLOTHES!

That's right clothes. Dress them for success.

1. Running pants to help for those cold weather runs.

2. Thin layer fleece to help them layer on so they can better control the
body temperature. Too often the kids only have a t-shirt on under sweats. In
cold weather it is best to have at least 3 layers to better regulate your
body temp by taking off and putting on different layers.

3. Hats and think gloves. I have seen very few hats and almost no gloves at
practices so far. It's going to get colder.

4. Heart Rate Monitors. Many of our athletes could benefit from knowing how
hard their bodies are working and not just thinking about how much it hurts.
I strongly recommend the boys to all have one. A-1 Polar is the lowest model
and you should be able to find them on-line from $45-50. You can get the A-3
or higher and they have date and time so it could function as more then just
a HR Monitor. A-3 or higher can be found for $80-$250.

5. Rain Shell. Thin waterproof shell that could go over fleece and or sweats
to keep them dry.

6. Spandex - Everyone can benefit from having the right clothes to work on
the ergs or water. Basketball shorts and boxers are not a good idea.

7. Lots of energy bars for after practice so they don't come home and eat
anything and everything because they are hungry. Erg and our workouts burn
a lot of calories.

8. Under-Armor - These types of shirts help the kids with layering. They are
lightweight and comfortable.

9. I can't think of any other items but I'm sure some of the rowers/parents
could offer some suggestions. Just think about being a little practical when
it come for gifts for the kids. They might want electronics, cars and/or
money but they will thank you went then are happy working in all sorts of
weather because they are prepared.

I hope everyone has a great holiday season...hope to see you all soon at a
regatta...when it's warm again.

Hello all,

A reminder that our first order of Poinsettia, wreaths, and greens
will be deliverd to W-L on Friday about 3:15. We need help getting
them out of the truck and a sorting them by delivery in the Little
Theater.

There will also be a box to collect MONEY DONATIONS (cash is better)
for our coach's Holiday Bonus. It will be available next week also
for delivery and at the Holiday Bazaar. Our coaches really appreciate
it, specially this time of year.

At Barzaar, W-L Crew will have 4 tables to sell our poinsettias and
wreaths AND all of our crew gear. If your rowers needs to get a crew
(betting) shirt or sweat pants, this would be a great time to pick one
up(and maybe use it for a gift!).

W-L Crew is successful because we have
fabulous parents
that make it all work!

Next crew booster meeting next Thursday, 7:30 in room 224.
Topic of Nationals being scheduled on the Friday of the Prom will be
discussed.

On Friday, December 2 and on Friday, December 9 - the poinsettias and
wreaths will be delivered to WL at approximately 3:30pm.

I need some volunteers to help unload everything off of the truck and to
help organize all of the orders in the Little Theater (located on the
Quincy Street side of the school).

The more help we have the quicker the job will get done. Please let me
know if you can help us with this.

We will also need some help on Saturday, December 3 and Saturday,
December 10. The rowers come to pick up their orders between 9am-12pm.
We will need about 4-5 volunteers on each of those Saturdays.

REMEMBER - Saturday, December 10 is the Holiday Bazaar. We have 4
tables reserved for the WL Crew team to sell crew gear, poinsettias and
wreaths. Please let us know if you can take a shift at the Bazaar to
sell poinsettias and wreaths.

I have heard from:
Annette Osso - wants to help at the bazaar
Lisa Million - can help, please let me know when
Barbara Monfort - can help on Fridays

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Hello Everyone,

This email is being sent out to serve as a reminder that the women will have an "optional" practice on Wednesday morning at 9:00 AM.  We will be meeting in "The Fridge" as usual.

If the men don't already have something scheduled for Wednesday and would like to have an erg practice, I am willing to stay and have an erg practice at 10:15 AM with you all.  This is, of course, if Coach Derek doesn't mind.  Please let me know.

Thanks,
Coach Caleca

Okay...I have received a number of orders this weekend. Now you all
have to get your envelopes from your team captains on Monday, get some
more order forms from Coach Harrick's room or print out your own copies
and get out and sell more poinsettias and wreaths this week and over the
Thanksgiving holiday. You can download the order form from the WL crew
website.

Rowers - I'll bet many of you are going to the doctor (for your
physicals) or to the dentist or orthodontist, because it's a holiday and
that's when it's easy for you to get to a doctor. So take those forms
to the doctors that you may be seeing over the holiday. Or, if you have
a part-time job, talk to your employer about ordering holiday greens.
Be creative about who you can sell to.

Crew Families - this isn't just for the rowers to do. You too can help
the crew team by selling holiday greens. You can sell to your
employers, your doctors, businesses that you go to frequently, etc.

Remember - the more we raise the more you're helping the crew team be
the best it can be. Without these fundraisers we can't do what we need
to do.

Thanks.

I've placed a basket on my front porch. Please put order forms and
payments in the basket. My address is 1710 N. Nelson Street (at the
corner of 18th & Nelson Streets in Cherrydale; 18th St. is off of Quincy
St. near WL and Nelson St. is off of Lee Hwy. near the Cherrydale Safeway).

Thanks.

Okay...I've just added up all of the orders that I've received as of
today. Only 14 rowers have turned in orders as of today. There are 100
rowers on the roster.

As of today the WL Crew Boosters will take in about $2,000 from this
fundraiser. This isn't even close to the $18,000 fundraising goal.

Please feel free to bring your orders and payments to my house over this
weekend. And PLEASE get out and sell more poinsettias and wreaths.

Hopefully by November 28 we'll reach our goal - I'm counting on all of
you to help make this a successful fundraiser.

All,

I would just like to once again encourage all of those interested to attend
the USRowing convention for the information availble for High School
athletes. If you are looking at rowing in college or looking on how to take
your abilities to the next level I think this would be a great opportunity
for you all.

All,

I have added the information about our fundraiser at Uno Chicago Grill in
Seven Corners(6363 Seven Corners Center, Falls Church, VA 22044 ). You will
need to print out the coupon that is also available on the website and bring
that with you for us to get credit for your visit.

This fundraiser will be held this Friday, Nov. 11th.

W-L Crew will receive 20% of the total bill(I don't think alcohol is
included). You have all day so come for Lunch or Dinner or Both. Hope you
all can make it.

Hi all,

We're planning on going to UNO tomorrow and hope to see other crew parents and
rowers there!

One thing -- I was talking with a friend who did this for something at their
school and she said that someone was at the door of the restaurant handing out
coupons and also asking other people who were eating there if they wanted to
support their group and gave them a coupon. Maybe you're already planning to do
this.....

This group is so organized that you've probably already thought of this, but
just in case, I wanted to pass along the suggestion. I'll print out a few
extras.

Hope to see some of you tomorrow.
