Subject: Crew Blaster workout
Last week for a few minutes I got to watch Derek coaching the guys doing blasters on the ergs. It looked like a pretty tough workout and having rowed on my erg. quite a bit over the summer to get in shape ( I'd never tried blasters) I asked Dakota to coach me through a session of Blasters later that evening to see how well I could do at them. For those of you who like myself didn't know what Blasters are they are around 6 sets of minute and a half all out rows followed by the same rest time ,then 6 one minute sets with the same rest and then 6, 30 second sets or something like that. Man are they a great workout! I was dying by the middle of the final 30 second sets and had to quit before I passed out. I’m definitely going to add them to my rowing schedule. Looking back now on what I saw some of the guys doing I am impressed. I saw several rowers with split times ( average) in the a low 130's and once in a while dropping into the high 120's ! I was lucky to stay in the high140's. Of course I'm an old timer by these kids standards and no real judge of good rowing but, from what I saw at this stage of winter practice I was impressed!
I’m curious if any of you crew boosters or parents work out on erg’s? I can’t remember if parents can compete in the erg. triathlon they have but I’d like to try it and it would be fun to comptete with other parents.
