Dear Coaches,Hope your fall season is going well! It would be great if you could forward the following information to your athletes. We are very excited about our programs and would love to have some east coast rowers join us in the midwest!! .
Here is some information about Oklahoma City University Crew:
Oklahoma City University offers an exciting rowing program which includes emphasis on both disciplines, sweep and sculling. OCU has the first collegiate sculling program in the nation to offer scholarships for men and women. We are excited to add the sculling program which will provide junior rowers/scullers an opportunity to continue developing the sculling discipline throughout the collegiate years and potentially attain elite national and international success. Scholarships are also available for our sweep program which continues to grow and thrive.
We have many exciting developments in Oklahoma City and at OCU which center around the Olympic Movement including the 2007 Oklahoma Centennial Regatta Festival in October which included the Head of the Oklahoma and the USA Rowing World Challenge. We had nine international teams training on the Oklahoma River and racing in the World Challenge. Collegiate and club teams from around the country competed in the Head of the Oklahoma which included the OG&E Night Sprints which were successfully debuted at the 2006 Head of the Oklahoma. This was a very exciting event as teams from around the world practiced and raced in Oklahoma City in preparation for the Bejing Olympics!
OCU currently trains out of the Chesapeake Boathouse which is a state of the art, iconic facility located on the Oklahoma River and just 4 miles from OCU. It has recently been announced that an OCU boathouse including a high performance training center will be constructed in the near future. We are planning for the OCU boathouse and Oklahoma River to become an international training venue for elite level scullers and rowers. The Oklahoma River faces exciting enhancements including permanent lighting for night rowing and racing which will make it a premier urban rowing destination. Furthermore, we are excited to announce the addition of Shane Hamman, two time Olympic weight lifter, as our new strength and conditioning coach!
Thank you for your consideration of Oklahoma City University - we would love to have you join us. Please let me know if I can answer any questions. You can find additional information at www.okcu.edu and www.chesapeakeboathouse.org. Also, check out the next Rowing News - our regatta won best event of the year, and there are several articles regarding our programs.
I look forward to hearing from you soon!
Sincerely,
Tempe Knopp
