All,

Winter training will start Nov. 12th. I think this is holiday but it's the first day we can hold workouts.
Looking forward we need to consider a few things:
- Holidays are coming a great presents can lead to a better, faster, stronger, warmer and happier athlete
- Physical - All athletes will need to have a current sports(VHSL) physical on file with the trainer to participate in winter conditioning.
- Schedules - we all need to look forward and start getting our schedules in line to take full advantage of the time we have
Things the kids can use/need.
- Heart Rate Monitors - they aren't mandatory but very, very helpful. Most of the workouts I proscribe for the BOYS are HR based. If you can't read from a HR monitor, your heart rate the athlete can still do it manually, it's just not as easy and convenient. You only need the lowest model around $50. If you want to get one that can tell time and be used as a watch it will cost you $75 and up(they can cost as much a $300+)
- If you holiday plans include "presents"...what better way to show you care then to make sure your athlete has all the gear/clothing to keep them warm and comfortable while working their butts off. Running tights, fleece jackets, hats, athletic bags and jackets are good items to consider as gifts. It won't make them as excited as a new electronic device but it will serve them better.
- If you don't get a physical by your current health care provider you all can take part in the schools opportunity to get a physical. I sent out info on this already.
- Schedules - the more you participate in winter training or a winter sport the more 'in-shape' you will be come Feb 25th. The stronger and faster you are on this date is the only true predictor of what level of boat you will be one come the end of the season. If you start to clear your schedules or simplify your life the better you will be able to get everything that is important accomplished. Excuses for not doing something make it easier to not do something but it never makes it go away.
