If you think you have something to complain about...you might want to think
of the people in this situation first.

Dear Rowing World,

As many of you know, DeLand, FL, home of Stetson University, was hit with tornadoes early morning, February 2nd.  Many of you have written to check on us, so I thought I would let everyone know what happened.  The best way to describe it (quoting our Novice Coach, Chris Thomas...) "Everything's Gone."

We lost every boat (the boathouse collapsed on top of them).  The oars we can find are crushed (we found part of the oar storage shed in a tree).  Our trailer got flipped, so we'll see if it's salvageable.  We lost one of our two coaching launches.  We lost part of our dock, as a tree is on top of it.  The marina where we store our boats is nothing but a bunch of sticks now.

The only things that survived were one of our two docks & one of our two coaching launches.

The tornadoes came through about 4:00 am, so none of our kids were at the site.  We are 5 miles from campus & the tornadoes did not go near the main campus.  Fortunately, there has been no fatalities in our county (Volusia), although the last report I heard had 19 deaths in our neighboring county (Lake).

I tried to include 4 pictures in this email, but I guess that made it too big, because they got booted back to me.  So, if you'd like to see pictures, you can go to:

Thanks so much for thinking of us,
Chris Deatrick

GO HATTERS!!!
