THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!!!

Thanks to all who came out on Saturday night to play and to help. Without
you all there would have been no tournament.

A few items were left at the fields that night:
1 pair of cleats "diadora"
1 left sandal "avia"
1 padded ground chair "lounge lizard"
1 Indiana disc "Karla"
1 Himmel Park disc "JB"
VOTS disc bag
Cozmo's radio -- WHO HAS IT???

Also, I can think of a couple people who brought items for the tourney, but
did not give me a receipt. I'm sure you would like to be reimbursed.

Ok. See ya'll on August 28th for Desert Nocturnal Coed Hat Draw '99 #2!!!
(it probably won't be "make it, take it").

Thanks again! Ciao for now! say

                Coed (5-2 savage format) Ultimate
Caja Del Rio Soccer Fields in Santa Fe, NM

It's time again for some coed Savage at 7,000 feet. Teams from all over
are asking what this coed Savage thing is all about. For those of you who
have never played in this event it is a 5-2 coed Savage format. At the
beginning of each game you choose the seven players that will valiantly
represent your team and they must play the entire game, straight to 7 points.
This year we are returning to roster caps. So please limit your
number of players to ten or less. Teams from as far away as Oregon and
Vermont are considering playing this year. Last year we hosted 20 teams
and are hoping for more teams and a better geographical cross section.

As with last year's event the only way to secure a slot for the tournament
will be by sending in a deposit; first come, first served. Due to new ownership
of the polo fields we are uncertain as to how much field space will be made
available to us. We hope to accommodate all teams that submit a bid, but
can't make that guarantee until the new management gives us more
details. To submit a deposit, make out a check for $100 to Chris Fontes
and mail it (before August 31) to:

                 Chris Fontes
                 2337 North Rd.
                 Los Alamos, NM 87544

If you've never seen the Southwest, this is the perfect opportunity to combine
your favorite sport with a taste of salsa. The annual fiesta known as Zozobra
will be going on all weekend long so there will be plenty of partying in the
air. Join us in the festivities!

Keep an eye on our web site (www.vla.com/ultimate) for more details.

Hi to all. Thanks for the tremendous response, especially to those of you who
have generously volunteered to help out. I'm looking forward to seeing most of
you out there on Saturday playing in the tournament.

We still need just a few more volunteers:

1.   So far, only 2.5 people have stepped up to be captains.  It's an easy job;
it involves taking turns drawing names out of hats.

2. And speaking of hats, does anyone have 5 hats?

3. We also need a timekeeper who can blow the air horn at the appropriate
times. This person should have a watch. (sorry -- this item was not on the
original request)

4. Can somebody open their doors as a back-up party location in case of
inclement weather?

Here is an updated list of the volunteers. Most people I have asked to arrive
at the fields at 4:30.

Things to bring:
Stuff from Kevin's house - Guy (4:15 p.m.)
Cones for 4 fields - Richard (2), Ken M. (2)
Game discs - Guy (from Kevin's house)
Beer, cups, ice - Mike Y., Cozmo (stay in touch for a possible update on this
situation)
Ice chests - Sarah (1), Mike Y. (1), Jason (1) (we may need more of these)
Soda (2 cases) - Kelly
Water - John S.
Pinata, string, candy, stick - Monica
UPA paperwork - Sarah
Pens - Kelly
Tape - Sarah
Attitude - everyone

Things to do:
Set up tent, table, chairs - Guy, Sarah, Routley
Line fields - Richard, Guy, Peter, Phil, Kelly
Put foam on goal posts - Phil, Routley
Registration - Jill, Ron D., Kevin T., Ken M.
Disc and shirt sales - Routley
Medical personnel - Kisha (6-10 p.m.), Konrad (10-midnight)

Thanks again!!! See ya.

To any interested party...

I have room for 2 more people on a permit for backpacking/camping in the
Grand Canyon. The permit is as follows:

Sept 30: Bright Angel Campground (at the bottom)
Oct 1: Indian Gardens (halfway up the Bright Angel Trail)
Oct 2: Indian Gardens

Notes:

1. We hope to change Oct 1 to be Bright Angel. We think we can do this
(with a little luck) on the day we hike in because we know that they
hold back some space for day-of-hike requests. (Day hiking is much
better around Bright Angel, hence the desire to change.)

2. We have other GC permits for other campsites on the same nights
(no, there's no space currently available on the others) such that it will
allow this to be a Rim-to-Rim hike. Some people will be going South
Rim-to-North, others N-to-S, and switching vehicles. So you could do this
hike either N-to-S (hiking the 1st day all the way from the N. Rim to Bright
Angel,
a total of 14 miles), or just starting & ending at the South Rim. (FYI -
the other permits are: Indian Gardens-Bright Angel-Cottonwood;
Cottonwood-Cottonwood-Bright Angel.)

3. Cost - $15.25 per person (your share of the permit fee)

4. If you have questions or want these openings, contact me
at: David.Abdoo@...

5. "First-come, first-served"

6. You must agree to abide by all GC backpacking rules. I'm very anal
about protecting the canyon - "pack it in, pack it out", no firearms,
no open fires (stoves only), no feeding wildlife, etc.

7. If you don't want to stay all 3 days, that's ok. (It'll still cost
you $15.25).

8. FYI: Rumor has it that UPA Regionals are the same weekend as this
hike (although the UPA page doesn't show it yet).

This may be new to a few of you and a reminder to many:
Albuquerque is hosting a coed tournament Aug. 21-22. It will be a 4/3
format as it is intended to be a tune-up for teams playing into the Fall
series.
We will be having a party with dinner provided. The entry fee is
$140/team with a deposit of $85.
(There were flyers passed out at the Atomic Blast this weekend listing
the fees as $125/team and $75 for the deposit. That was a
miscommunication our part, it is $140/$85)
This tourney is a qualifier for the coed celebration. Automatic
spots in the celebration will go to the tournament winner and the winner
of the experimental rules category, which will be the team with the most
mixed gender goals. Waiting list spots will go to tournament runner up,
Spirit award winner, and a fifth category still to be decided upon.

Hi All,

We have a couple of fields reserved at Diablo on July 31st from 6pm until
midnight. The obvious thinking is that this would be a great night for a
Nocturnal hat draw tourney. For any of those who might not know what that
is, it's a tourney where folks gather at the appointed hour, put their
name in a hat, designated captains draw names out of hats, and viola, we
have a tournament. They're typically a lot of fun.

Now the thing is, Jill is out of town that weekend, as are Tina and I;
which means a couple of the usual suspects are not going to be available
to "run" the thing. So besides serving as an announcement for the gig,
this note is also a plea for someone to come forward on be the TD. It's
not a really tough job, but it does require a certain amount of
forethought and execution. It's usually pretty easy to get a few people
to show up a little early to line fields (or you can do it without lined
fields), and it's usually pretty easy to get someone to bring a keg, and
it's pretty easy to supervise the hat draw and deal with time caps, and
it's usually pretty easy to get someone to get a pinata. The most
difficult part of it is dealing with UPA rosters, but even that isn't a
big problem; just have people do it as they show up to put their name in
the hat (btw, it's really *hats* - different hats for different genders
and a couple of different skill levels). Anyway, I'm available for kicking
around the possiblities and logistics.

Like I say, the fields are already reserved, so if anyone can be the TD,
please let me know. If no one volunteers, we'll have to cancel it.

Later,
Kevin Hatch

PS. For future reference, we also have fields reserved for the evening of
August 28th for another Nocturnal.

All,

Since I could get no takers on a Mountain expedition this week end, I have
decided to do a mongoloid party instead. With the family out of town, being
single and all, might as well act like it Here's the scoop.

Hopefully, I'll have two tables if I can arrange to get my loaner table back
from Beth. Beth, please email me or call (W - 244-4017 H - 897-8903) if we can
arrange to get this done, I'll be able to swing by Saturday. If not, the single
table will have to do.

Bring Frisbee tapes, Tom Polakis can I arrange to get the league finals tape, I
can stop by if you can provide it. Let me know.

This will be an evening event, starting at 8:00 pm ish till I kick you out
around 4:00 am or so.

Bing a six pack, if you care to, or just show up. Beer will be abundant. There
will be some margaritas and other stuff too.

No kids at this one, unless they are sleeping.

Come check out the new tile floor, thrilling I know, but if you ever bought one,
you'd understand $$$$(ouch).

Directions: from the corner of Baseline and Dobson in Mesa, go south to the
first light. Turn left (east) on Lindner, take the first turn right (south)
after the second four way stop on Ash circle. The house is the very back house
in the circle. 2131 South Ash Circle, creative parking allowed....

Hope to see you, especially Jill. I have a surprise for you for the outstanding
league effort. Let me know if you can make it, Jill.

All frisbee types invited, spread the word.

Hi everyone.

I have some bad news. I can't keep Katie. I tried to find an apartment in
Jersey that would take her, but i pretty much got laughed at. i can't
afford to purchase a home yet, so i have to give her up for adoption. I
know that a couple of people have expressed some slight interest, so if you
want to talk about it, i'd be delighted if she could stay in the ulty
community with people she knows and likes. Please respond to me directly if
you might be interested and we'll chat. Thanks.

A friendly reminder that in about a week and a half the Four Corners' Hat will
be taking place in Durango. That's June 12+13

I've been told by fellow Durango Ultimate players that not enough people know
about the tourney, and if they do, than they don't know where, when, etc. So
please forward this on to your disc playing friends. For directions and info
email me, Sal space@... or 970-385-4324

I also have a positive couple updates:

1) there's limited floor space with local players

2) A toured Mountain Bike ride the Friday before will be lead by Paul, a local
disc player. Durango is widely known as the mountain biking capital of the
universe, so if you dig biking this could be a great opportunity. Interested,
than email Paul paub@...

Later, Sal

Thanks for setting up practices for coed-comp series.
I think it is a great idea, and a good opportunity to raise the level of play in
town for both sexes!!! I was too anxious to run last nite, too much pent up
energy. I'm over it now and will take my valium as scheduled.
see you all real soon!

extra special thanks to everyone over the past couple months for support. it is
an unbeliveable feeling to have such good folks around!
