Subject: re: [vots] Spring League Playoffs - Fantasy Finals
Folks -
As Jose so subtly reminds me, I have helped organize Fantasy Finals a few times in the past. And I would like to do so again, but I'll need some help. Due to other obligations, I will not be able to make it to the fields until after the start of play for Finals, which is perhaps understandable in a larger context but still a poor qualification for a Fantasy Commissioner. That means I will need (at least) 2 volunteers to hand out entry forms, collect entry fees, and - most importantly - keep score of Fantasy Points in my absence.
I can do all the prep work, including sending out a follow-up email explaining the Fantasy Rules for those who haven't participated before or are just plain forgetful, creating the entry forms, and creating the scorecards you will use during the game. I will need assistants who can print out the entry forms & scorecards after I email them to you.
Being a Fantasy Commissioner is a lot of fun, especially if you like the feeling of power that comes from making decisions that affect other people's money. But it is also a little bit of work, particularly in that it requires you to actually pay attention to the game, from start to finish. A novel idea, I know, but a critical one for a successful Fantasy Finals. It also helps if you are handy with a clipboard. And, by the way, if you are an FC you don't get to actually enter the Fantasy competition yourself - you just get to dictate the way it all turns out, which is some consolation, I hope. Remember, God doesn't need money.
So, if you are interested in volunteering your time, let me know ASAP. I need (at least) 2 qualified applicants no later than 5:00pm Tuesday in order to have everything in place for Wednesday's big showdown. "Qualified" is roughly synonymous with "moderately experienced with League play and ready to make quick decisions in conjunction with the other FC's."
Of course, if you think that this whole Fantasy Finals thing just isn't that hard to figure out, and you want to steal the whole operation out from under me, feel free to step up & take charge. (Because you would be right, it really isn't that hard to figure out. Plus, that way I could actually use my years of Fantasy experience to win all your money. Muwaahaahaahaa.)

Anyway, I'd like to say congratulation to the winners of Spring League. So, Congratulations to ... wait .... what's that? We don't have league winners? Well, ... what? Semis and Finals are Wednesday?! Well, hot dog!!
So, I'm hoping you all can help me thank a few folks. Katherine Nabity, who tallys the scores, keeps the records, runs the web, maintains the roster, and keeps me organized. Without her, we're pretty screwed. Monika and Josiah who made multiple CostCo runs and pretty much supply all the food and drink for the BBQ. Laura Smolinki for spending her Friday night cutting up a crap-load of vegetables, because I think grilled burgers need sliced tomatoes and hot dogs need diced onions. Michael Clark for borrowing a truck, and dealing with the grill, Daryl Miller for letting us use his grill, Keith Aspinall for always providing his support as the father of modern day VOTS, Eddie and Marni Rangel (new player's parents) for grilling all the food, the set-up and clean-up crews, field set-up folks, and all of the captains, who helped me with setting up fields, taking down fields, calling time caps and hopefully making your ultimate experience a better one.

Subject: [vots] Spring League Playoffs
Hey, all.
Well, I hope those of you in Spring League 2009 enjoyed Playoffs this past weekend. Things really went well despite the 0-80 mph winds. That is, of course, a rough estimate. I dropped out of meteorlogy school. Thanks for bringing that up.
Anyway, I'd like to say congratulation to the winners of Spring League. So, Congratulations to ... wait .... what's that? We don't have league winners? Well, ... what? Semis and Finals are Wednesday?! Well, hot dog!!
It turns out we aren't finished, yet!!
Come on out and watch the Semis and Finals games this week Wednesday at Diablo Fields. Game times are 6pm for the Semis and 8pm for the Finals. Come see the Best of the Best. Cheer on your favorite teams and heckle your favorite players. It's a really fun way to spend the evening and you might win a couple bucks, too, if we can get someone cool, like Ken Mayer to come out and run Fantasy Ultimate *hint* *hint*. And, afterwards, head on out to Boulders on Broadway where it's half-priced pizza and appetizers and beer specials for ultimate folks.
What? You say you can't wait until Wednesday to hang out with friends and watch some quality ultimate? Then, come on out tonight to wait the Semis and Finals of the Best of the Rest (not meant to be literal, since you're all winners.) Games start at 6pm and 8pm. It's a great opportunity to practice your heckling.
And, finally, I'd like to thank some folks that really make league what it is. When you think about what you get for league, it's 10 lighted 2-hour games, a shirt, a disc, playoffs, and a BBQ for 30 bucks, you start to realize how much effort is put into making league what it is.
Please take a moment to thank any, or even all, of these folks. Because without them, we wouldn't have the league that we do.
So, I hope you all can make it out to the games tonight and/or Wednesday night. I know all of the players would love your support.
And, I will see you on the fields.
