ultimate tournament next weekend!!   Message List

Hello VOTSLAND!!

First off, Happy 4th to everyone! Hope you all are enjoying/did enjoy the
holiday!

So, next Saturday, July 14th, Twilight Hat Tournament in Tucson.

Gee Volo, what does that mean exactly?

Well....

Tournament means you'll get to play more than one frisbee game at a
competitiveness at least where someone is keeping score. And if you're new to
the game, I can promise you that any tournament is gonna be a GREAT way to up
your skills a bit, without the pressure of overzealous league captains, cuz
really, everyone's just there to have fun.

Hat means the teams are chosen randomly, so as to hopefully keep things even
(i.e. picking names out of a HAT, get it?). That means no worries about getting
a team together, and you get to meet new ultiimate players just like your fun
self!

Twilight means starting in the early evening and going into the later evening.
When suns go down, we use glowing equipment. OK, I'm a little skeptical. I
haven't played unlit night disc since I was a beginning wee little hucker back
in my college days Wednesdays at midnight in the Sunken Gardens. But it was fun
then, and I'm thinkin it'll still be fun now. Honestly, I see it as a no-lose
spot. Even if the tourney sucks, using a Saturday night for a mini-trip to
Tucson for bad disc is probably still more fun than about 85% of Scottsdale.

And Tucson means it's a long enough drive where you feel like you're getting out
of the Phoenix area for a day, but short enough where it's not killing your
whole weekend.

And as if there were anything to not love already, there's gonna be BEER!!!

I've been dieing to get in a tournament for a while now, but we just don't see
them a lot around here. And it just so happens that next weekend is open for me.
So I'd like to go, but I don't wanna go alone, so I'm gonna try 'n organize a
Phoenix contingent to this shindig.

Registration is at 6, so I'm thinking of planning on leaving at like 3 on
Saturday (which means I might be on the 10 by 4:30). So you'd still get to sleep
in and do whatever you feel you "need" to do Saturday morning/early afternoon.

I've got offers of floorspace!! But I'm not sold on it. I'm super flexible. I
might be willing to spring for a cheapo hotel room. Who knows? Maybe just drive
back late at night. Either way, we're looking at being back by noon on Sunday.
Plenty of time to shower, eat, think about cleaning your bathroom but instead
just watch an hour of The McLaughlin Group followed by Spongebob Squarepants,
then go join Jot & Co. at Rhodes in Mesa for some Sunday pick-up. (That's what
my Sundays are usually like. I don't know. Maybe you do something different.)

So I'd like to at least get a car of people to go. Maybe if we get enough, we
can get a car of drive-back-at-nighters and a car of party/crash-the-nighters
(aka The Cool Kids).

Email me back thomasvolo@... and tell me you're a Cool Kid.
