As most of you know, I am putting together a dragonboat team comprised of ultimate frisbee players for the First Annual Arizona Dragonboat Festival.  www.azdba.com  The festival will be held March 20th and 21st on Tempe Town Lake.  Currently there are about 60 teams registered and it should be a blast.  The cost is $1000 per boat ($45 per person) and will benefit the YMCA Strong Kids Program and the Arizona Dragonboat Association.  The festival is being run by  www.facilitymarketing.com and they are providing all of the equipment, insurance, scheduling, and safety crews, and are pretty much running the whole festival for us.  The dragonboats are arriving in Tempe on Monday and we will get three chances to practice in them

You need to attend at least two practices, and the first practice is mandatory.  Please try to attend all three practices.  If less than 17 people show up they won't let us on the water!  Also, "dragonboat time" does not work like "ultimate time"...we actually need to show up 15 minutes early to each practice (20-25 minutes early for the 1st practice) so we can get our PFDs on, our paddles selected, and our waivers checked, so we can be ready to get into the boat as soon as our practice time starts.  We only have three hours total so let's use every minute!

1st Practice:  Friday, March 12th   6:00 - 7:00 pm  (arrive 20-25 minutes early)  This one is MANDATORY!!!!
2nd Practice:  Sunday, March 14th   3:30 - 4:30 pm  (arrive 15 minutes early)
3rd Practice:  Sunday, March 14th   5:00pm - 6:00 pm  (arrive 15 minutes early, or just stick around after the 2nd practice!)

Don't worry if you have never paddled before.  I can teach you!  :)  We need 20 paddlers, plus 1 drummer, and 1 steersperson for a full boat (plus we are allowed up to 3 alternates).  The drummer is a very important position and I am looking for some volunteers.  You need to be able to keep a very steady beat and have a loud voice and a good sense of balance.  The steersperson is also very important and someone with sailing or rafting experience would be ideal for this position.

There will be an awards for best team spirit, best drummer headgear, etc.

Please let me know if you want to participate.  It should be a bunch of fun and is yet another chance to spread the word about ultimate frisbee.

I NEED A ROSTER BY FRIDAY!  First 22 people are in the boat!

Thanks!
Wendy
