Vikings Sign McMahon By Mike Lurie

Vikingsboard has received confirmation that the Vikings have reached an
agreement with former Eagles backup quarterback Mike McMahon. Financial details
of the agreement have not yet been released.

After starting four games for the Detroit Lions in 2002, McMahon moved on to the
Philadelphia Eagles last year and played under Brad Childress. The familiarity
between Childress and McMahon is a key reason for the acquisition.

"We knew what we were getting with McMahon" said one person close to the
situation. "Brad (Childress) already knows that he has a good work ethic and is
a high character veteran that will bring some positive things both on the field
and in the locker room".

McMahon, let go to make room for Jeff Garcia as the backup to Donovan McNabb,
played in nine games for Philadelphia and went 2-5 as a starter after McNabb was
out with a sports hernia. He completed 94 of 207 passes (45.4 percent) for 1,158
yards, five touchdowns and eight interceptions. McMahon is expected to provide a
backup presence for Brad Johnson who is projected to be this year's starter.

Coach Brad Childress has been quoted on Philadelphiaeagles.com as saying; "First
of all, he's got the jargon down. The words paint pictures for him, so it's not
like the first time in. He's had something to do with a system similar to this
for 4 or 5 years now. He's got a nice, strong arm. He can throw the deep out,
the sideline out. He can create things with his speed if the pocket breaks down.
He can make things happen up the field. I think the biggest thing is that Mike
manages it. He knows what he can do, what he can't do, and always takes care of
the football."

Along with the connection to head coach Brad Childress, McMahon also has a more
subtle connection to owner Zygi Wilf who certainly must have been familiar with
the quarterback from his success with the Rutgers program in college. McMahon
not only provides a solid veteran presence behind Johnson, but he also brings a
fair amount of experience with Coach Childress' West Coast Offense.

Welcome to Minnesota Mike McMahon!
