Subject: Public bicycle forum invite
Invitation to a forum 2-4pm Thursday 21 July Can a
public bicycle system contribute to developing and
promoting cycling in Melbourne?
I write to invite you to attend a forum to discuss the
possibility of a public bicycle system in Melbourne.
This invitation is extended to a
variety of sustainable transport stakeholders in
Melbourne.
Research in the Industrial Design Program at RMIT has
been exploring a strategic concept for cycling
promotion in Melbourne. This forum will
commence with a presentation of Scenarios for an
Integrated Public Bicycle in Melbourne. The research
has generated a strategic concept to increase bicycle
usage and cycling activities by integrating visions of
a public bicycle system with existing public
transport, with urban information systems, and with
tourist services and activities. Visual scenarios for
a possible Public Bicycle will be presented to provoke
discussion amongst stakeholders.
The Forum is expected to attract participation from:
City of Melbourne; Bicycle Victoria; The Victorian
Department of Infrastructure TravelSmart team and
Transport Ticketing Authority;VicRoads; Metlink;
Tourism Victoria; Public Transport Users Association;
Bicycle user groups; and scholars in sustainable
transport and design.
Please see the attached flyer for details. We do hope
you can attend.
Yours sincerely,
Mick Douglas
