Hi Robin,
Thank you for your email. After speaking to MCC in early January I was
under the impression that works were going to resume on the bridge
immediately and that they had only stopped due to the New Years eve fire
works display.
I called MCC yesterday asking them what was going on. Aparently they will
be starting work on the bridge again after the Moomba celebration.
Therefore the bike lane could have been reopened back in January and
remained open until after Moomba. I told the engineer this was not good
enough and questioned the bike lanes closure.
I have updated our webpage and asked members to write to MCC and question
why the bike lane is still closed whilst road works are dormant. Please
do the same, the MCC email address is enquiries@....
Please include Bicycle Victoria in the CC: bar when writing to council.
I hope this is useful

Subject: RE: princes bridge shared path (east side)
Hi Graeme
I was given to understand that the lines had been removed because the
hoardings that narrowed the path across the bridge were to be reinstated
this year. It's clear, however, that the work requiring hoardings is
finished and the full width of path is again available, so there is no
reason not to reinstate the bike markings.
I have also heard from someone who spoke to MCC about this, that there is
no intention to reinstate the bike section on the bridge.
Perhaps it's a case of one part of MCC not knowing what the other is
doing, or perhaps it's more sinister?
It's certainly outrageous that cyclists are expected to risk life &
limb on the pathetically inadequate on-road "lanes" across the
bridge, when there is ample space on the path for all users.
Could you please chase up MCC on this?
Thanks
Robin Gallagher
