Some very encouraging steps towards an accreditation for ride leaders through BV - they're looking for a small group of people to assist in the development of a scheme, see below for details and if you'd like to be involved please contact Callum asap.

Cheers, Anna

Bicycle Victoria Ride Leader Accreditation Program

Bicycle Victoria is developing a program for the accreditation of ride leaders. The program aims include increasing accessibility to led rides for novice and intermediate riders. In support of this aim, an Accredited Ride Leader will be afforded third party and public liability protection.

Bicycle Victoria is calling for experienced ride leaders to assist in the following aspects of the program's development:

    • Identifying the criteria which are pre-requisites for accreditation. In other words - how does someone display that they are a suitable person to deliver safe enjoyable rides to the novice and intermediate market?
    • Formulating guidelines relating to the planning and delivery of safe and enjoyable rides. In other words - how does a best practice ride leader go about running safe enjoyable rides for the novice and intermediate market?

We are looking to convene a small group of approximately five to brainstorm and assist with these criteria and guidelines. We are particularly interested in hearing from groups such as BUG representatives that have experience in running led rides and/or delivering training to ride leaders.

Initial expressions of interest in participating, please contact me by email by Friday 20 July 2007.

    Kind Regards,

    Callum Cheyne
