Hello All,

This is a reminder that the 2008 season is underway and the fee schedule is
NOW in effect

Velodrome Pass: $10 per day or $100 per year
   Equipment rental: $10 per day

The $100 annual pass includes all open riding, training races, and many
weekend races. Note that USAC sanctioned events may have separate fees. Bruce,
Dale, Gene and myself can collect the fees. When purchasing an annual pass, be
sure that your name is logged, and that you receive your membership card.

Junior riders 18 and under ride free including bike rental all year.

Again this year, first time riders get a free pass and bike rental for one

Your money goes towards insurance, maintenance and improvements to the
velodrome. Last year, we purchased two 20’ storage containers and new rental

velodrome, and many thanks to those who have already purchased an annual pass.

I have created a My Space page for the velodrome's
band, the Pit Crew. On it you will find some schedule
information, one video we did of a AA race that might
have Kacey in it; back in the day!

There are some photos and some general information. I
would like you to send me some suggestions on how this
site can be used to help promote the velodrome.
Getting talented musicians is not an option as
everyone is stuck with me for another year!

1)Ride of Silence - I participated in my first ride of silence this
past Wednesday. About 100 of us left Belle Isle and silently pedaled
at a steady 12 mph pace to Campus Martius and past Comerica Park and
the Fox Theatre and then back to Belle Isle in cool, misty weather.
It was a solemn tribute to those cyclists who have lost there lives
while engaged in cycling. I especially appreciated the one guy who
removed a pedal from his single speed and pedaled the entire ten
miles with one leg.

2) The 2008 Pontiac Point of Hope event needs volunteer bicycle
mechanics to perform repairs on June 7 from 10:00am to 2:00pm at the
Wisner Stadium at Oakland Ave. and Summit St. Call Christina at 248-
390-8502 for more information.

3) I am still looking for someone interested in selling a Shimano
triple shifter for the front chainwheel on my tandem.

4) I am still offering for sale a 55cm Bianchi track bike for $350.

Hello everyone,

What a very good day we had at the track. Good participation and lots of good
efforts on the bike. Even the rain didn't stop things. I think LUKE won the bet
that the track would dry in 16 minutes.

I want to thank Tom Hillard for his time and equipment. Thank you to Gene for
finishing painting the blue line in time for the races and turning the lap
cards. Thank you to Ed for keeping track of releases and fees.

A special thank you to Bob Wydra again. While you were all racing he was under
the track painting the steel undercarriage. Thank YOU!

A super special thank you to Bruce Carlson. He gave up racing yesterday to work
the event and then put all the results on VBP's newly redesigned website. He
finished the posting of the results at midnight. He did the redesign too. THANKS
BRUCE!

Two important notes: Serious SPEED and ENDURANCE training sessions on tuesday
and thursday mornings at 10am. You are all welcome.

We are presenting to Rochester Hills City Council an update on our 2008 season.
It is monday nite 7pm, June 9th. We are on the agenda. Please attend. Jamie
Smith is creating a short video to show Council and we have just a few minutes
to update them. Please attend - in and out in less than an hour.

Hey,
I need to get a few words out. Ehem... ready?
If I was Austin Powers, I would say "YEAH BABY YEEEAAH!"
lol

Wow--something big is happening at the velodrome--I can feel it! It
was so AWEsome today I just had to say something. So many riders (woo
woo), even with some of the regulars not being there. Lots and lots
of riders. I think we had more cars out there than any nas-track race
last year. And everyone looked awesome: they were so prepared and
flying! It was just freakin' sweet! Freakin' sweet. I can't get
over it.

Maybe it's the records days that taunt people to come out to the track
or maybe it's the word that track will make you much faster on the
road, but I have a feeling that track will be big this year...

Btw, I have to really say thanks to the thirty (?) people that helped
me change my rear stinking flat tire before I blew a gasket. Thank
you! :)

Craig B., I was disappointed that I didn't see your bag on the
flagpole...must have picked it up eh?

Hello all Wolverines,

I spent many, many hours with Coach Mike Walden. His goal was always to help any
and every rider become better and reach their potential. A main element of his
coaching was at the track. He always said - get speed first then endurance. All
his riders who wanted to reach the national level trained on the track. His
method only produced 100+ National Champions, several Olympians and three World
Champions.

We built the the track in Bloomer Park to again provide a facility for riders to
get the SPEED needed to win. We now have two riders who have developed the SPEED
necessary to compete at the National level.

Kacey Manderfield's cycling career began at the track. Last year she won two
NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS on the track. This last weekend she came in the top 10
among the top women in the world in a race in Pennsylvania. Her plans are to
increase that speed by training at T-Town velodrome this summer - her sponsor is
based there.

Luke Cavender is now racing this weekend at the National Sports Cycling Center
in Minnesota racing on the velodrome. He came in 7th among many of the top track
riders in the US and a few best of the world.

They both got the SPEED and tactics from their time at our track.

So I find it amazing that more Wolverines are not spending time on the track. I
guarantee it will make you faster and a better tactician.

We have bikes so you don't need to spend very much money to get going. We have
coaches to teach you. If it is fear, that is understandable. The track is
banked 44 degrees and the bikes have no brakes. You would be nuts to ride it.

But then how can Wolverine rider Gene Diggs ride 1,500 miles a year on the track
with two bionic knees. Oh ya, Gene is 74 yrs old. He reached a top speed of
almost 30 miles per hrs this week and he's going to get even faster.

So you ALL are once again invited to the track.
Below is an email from a young Wolverine woman. She's our next Kacey. She's
training to get SPEED.

See ya at the track.
