Well, well, well! If you missed it this morning on FOX 2 you missed an exciting
commute of 25 miles from the Lakes area into Southfield as LYLA, "Spitfire"
Lazurus, pulled fifteen local riders into town. Helicopter coverage spotted
Lyla taking a spill as she had trouble getting out of her clips and then she
cramped up so your cohort here jumped to the rescue to relieve the "tension" she
incurred. While a novice rider, Lyla was remarkable in her enthusiasm as well as
her acceleration levels which were high enough to perform well in a cat 1
criterium!

positive news coverage such as this, and whatever other positive ideas you might
have. (My hope is that "commuting lanes" or even just paved shoulders would be a
big help.) We can have an impact on global warming perhaps or improving our
personal health. You know the tune. Express yourself.

The temperatures were in the forties this morning. It's not that it was cold.
It's that it was a damp cold! Nevertheless, our spirits were high and we were
each individually interviewed and appeared on live television at the FOX 2
studio on 9 Mile. Everyone was friendly and we made a stop at the Starbucks in
Providence Hospital for complimentary coffee and hot chocolate. Several riders
met us along the way and got their heart rates up as we followed Lyla of speeds
up to 27 mph eastbound on Maple.

We will repeat this scenario next year and we hope to turn this into a major
event as it is rare that the media initiates a ride and requests riders when it
is usually the other way around. Next year we will have an order of magnitude
greater number of riders on this circuit!
