I agree, Kathyrn, and thanks for the good news.
Sunday night I was distracted (long story for another time) and drove
off, having propped the wheel on the passenger side, while I loaded
bike from left, stretched a little, then shut the tailgate and drove
away (as I've done once or twice after Saddlemen rides).
I've just left a voice message for Jeff, whom I think I know as one of
the namless "regulars" at Stony. Not sure what he looks like but he
rides a blue and orange Orbea and had parked across from me.
I'm waiting for delivery a new chain, cassette and tires for the
Litespeed, so the wheel was off my old Univega, which I've been riding
a bit over the winter, still enjoying the silky-smooth steel ride.
This happy ending is proof once again of not merely the general
niceness of cyclists, but also the priceless advantages of wearing
one's Saddlemen colors.
My best to everyone and hope to see you all some time soon.

Hello Bob,
This is Kathryn (formerly known as Kitty) Selva from the Saddlemen. I
got a voice message today from someone who found your wheel!! He
seemed to remember that you were wearing a Saddlemen jersey, so he
looked us up on the web and found my name and number as the contact
person. His name is Jeff, phone # is 248-703-5686. Give him a call to
reclaim your wheel.
What a nice man to go the trouble of trying to track you down and
return your property to you!!!!! Cyclists are such great people,
aren't they?!
Hope you are well.

I was distracted leaving the Stony Creek boat ramp lot after my ride,
about 4:30 p.m. Sunday, April 1, and drove away forgetting to pack the
front wheel of the bike I'd just loaded atop my Volvo wagon.
It's a 700x23 Mavic Open Pro with a Vittoria Zaffiro Pro tire.
As I left, another regular rider whom I don't know was opposite me in
the parking lot (near the tree island opposite the building). He rides
a blue and orange Orbea and drives a bright yellow SUV, possibly a
Nissan X-terra.
I should have said hello/goodbye as the strong wind gusts forced me to
grab a wheel from him and another rider the last half-mile Sunday. Had
I done that, he might have noticed my wheel where it had been propped
(passenger side) of my car.
Anyone who knows about the wheel or this other rider, please respond
via e-mail, call my cell 248-656-2356 or leave the wheel at the Stony
Creek park office.
