The 6th season of track cycling at the Velodrome at
Bloomer Park in Rochester Hills, Michigan will be
underway with this weekend’s official opening at 10
a.m. Saturday May 6th. The season begins with Class
101 for New Riders.
A full schedule has been planned for 2006 including
the return of popular NAS-TRACK Team Racing League
and, for the first time ever, a 3 Day Madison
Tournament sanctioned by USA Cycling featuring
competition among the nations Olympic hopefuls.
Training races, riding sessions and lessons for
newcomers wishing to ride the only Velodrome of its
kind in the U.S are available all summer long.
Back on track is the NAS-TRACK Team Racing Friday
Night League, set to begin June 9th and continue on
Friday Nights thru August. Besides showcasing some
of the most incredible racing on the planet featuring
the incomparable Madison Tag Team race event,
NAS-TRACK Races also feature live entertainment by the
NAS-TRACK PIT CREW, informative race announcing and
comfortable hillside seating where spectators can
spread out a blanket and enjoy a picnic dinner while
watching the races. NAS-TRACK racing begins at 7 p.m.
and ends at twilight. Admission to the event is $3.
18yr. old and under are Free.
The U.S. NAS-TRACK 3 DAY MADISON TOURNAMENT will take
place June 16, 17 & 18th, producing a coach-selected
team to represent the U.S. at a marquis event in
Europe. The 3 DAY will bring in the top talent in the
nation, future Olympians, for a weekend of combined
training and racing to prepare them for the
international competition. Many riders will be
returning from the Pan Am Championships in South
America. Admission will be $3 per session. 18yr. old
and under are Free.
All summer long on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. and Saturdays
at 3 p.m riders will be racing in typical track events
– time trials, pack races and match sprints.
Spectators are welcome at no charge.
Class 101 is available to ALL NEW RIDERS on Thursdays
at 6 p.m. – 8pm and Saturday mornings at 10am – 2pm.
This is a FREE class for riders of all ages and
abilities.
As usual, individuals 18 and under can ride free all
summer long with free bike rental and free coaching.
Anyone can take their first ride for free.
Otherwise, fees are:
Daily Riding Fee - $10.
Daily Bike Rental Fee - $5.
Season Pass for Riding and Racing - $100.
The Velodrome at Bloomer Park is a 1/8th of a mile
wooden oval, completed in 2001 after a two-year
fund-raising campaign and a concerted effort by
dedicated volunteers. It is owned by the city of
Rochester Hills but is maintained, funded and operated
by the non-profit Mike Walden Velodrome Fund. All
donations or Grants should be made to the Community
Foundation of Greater Rochester.
