For Immediate Release:
USA Cycling & the Velodrome at Bloomer Park
announce the inaugural
U.S. NAS-TRACK 3 DAY MADISON TOURNAMENT
Rochester Hills, Michigan -- The Velodrome at Bloomer
Park in Rochester Hills, Michigan will host the 1st
U.S. NAS-TRACK 3 DAY MADISON TOURNAMENT designed to
challenge the nation’s top track racers and develop
athletes for world level competition. The event will
take place June 16-18th and utilize the popular
NAS-TRACK racing format of two-person team racing. It
is a sanctioned event of USA Cycling.
The tournament is a combined endeavor of USA Cycling
and NAS-TRACK. Colby Pearce, USA Cycling Endurance
Track Coach and Dale Hughes, Chairman of NAS-TRACK
have been working together to create a race format to
challenge and improve the skills of the racers, as
well as provide exciting race action for spectators.
Pearce will select the top-two riders to receive an
all-expense paid invitation to a European Track Race.
“I think the best track in the county to have this
race is the Velodrome at Bloomer Park, “said Pearce.
“It is a 200-meter track which will make the racing
more technical and accelerate everyone’s learning
curve.”
The Velodrome at Bloomer Park is the only one of its
kind in the country. The 200-meter wood oval is
banked 44 degrees in the turns, 13 degrees in the
straights. It is the fastest track in the U.S. and
home of the NAS-TRACK Team Racing League.
“The U.S. NAS-TRACK 3 DAY MADISON TOURNAMENT is
unique because of its format, the size of the track
and its focus on the game of Madison racing,” said
Hughes. Expected competitors include National Team
Riders returning from the 2006 Pan Am Championships,
the SPIKE Pro Track Team along with Elite Seniors from
the U.S. and Canada. U23’s, juniors, masters and
women will all be given an opportunity to compete.
Racers will also be competing for 50% of event ticket
sales, an anticipated minimum of $2,000.
Racers interested in competing in the first ever 3-Day
Madison Tournament must contact Hughes at 248-961-3705
or Kacey Manderfield at 248-770-9945.
The Velodrome at Bloomer Park is located at the end of
John R in Rochester Hills, Michigan. It is owed by
the city and operated by the Mike Walden Velodrome
Fund. Park pass is $5.00 per car and spectator
tickets are $3.00. 18yr and under FREE.
