Even though she fully supports her son, Luke, and his rise in the U.S.
cycling world, Debbie Cavender still cringes during some of his races.
Take a few weeks ago, when Luke competed at the USA Cycling Junior National
Track Championships in Trexlertown, Pa., from July 6-9.
"When I was at nationals she told one of my friends, 'Tell me when it's
over,' because she doesn't want to watch those kind of races," said Luke
Cavender, 17, a junior rider from Troy. "Junior riders tend to be more
spastic and all over the place. They have a lot of control but they don't
think before they act. There's a lot more crashes."
