A memorial service to celebrate the life of Terry Smith will be held at 12 noon,
April 16th at the Lexington United Methodist Church in Lexington , Michigan.
Mrs. Smith perished in a fire in her home in Lexington on January 17, 2005. She
was born Theresa Louise Burg on March 19, 1927 in Centerline and grew up in
nearby Romeo.
Mrs. Smith was predeceased by her husband, Jim C. Smith and her stepdaughter,
Lynn Smith. She began her successful career as a long distance operator for
Michigan Bell and later moved in a supervisory/management capacity for AT & T.
After her retirement, the couple moved from Detroit to Croswell and then to
Lexington.
Jim and Terry Smith met each other on a bicycle ride and over the years, became
well-known participants in the cycling and speed skating activities of the
Wolverine Sports Club, which Terry served as a director on its board.. She
assisted in the promotion bicycling events around the state. She was a staff
member of the Walden School of Cycling, held annually for 22 years in Florida.
In her adopted hometown of Lexington, Mrs. Smith involved herself in a number of
activities. She contributed her time to the Sanilac Historical Society. She took
up painting and became a member of the Black River Art Club, of which she became
President. She was an accomplished seamstress and was considered by her friends
and family to be extraordinarily talented at baking and cooking.
All friends and family members are invited to participate in the celebration of
her life. Services begin at noon.
She is survived by her brother William (Rosemary) Burg of Royal Oak, sisters
Mary B. Schroeder of Commerce Township, Ramona (Gaston) Wendzinski of Lathrup
Village, Pauline C. Hamilton of Centerline; and Margaret M. (Raymond) Hill of
Florida; 23 nieces and nephews and many dear and longtime friends. Interment
will be alongside her husband at White Chapel Memorial Cemetery in Troy.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sanilac Historical Society at or to
the Jim & Terry Smith Fund at the Community Foundation of Greater Rochester.
