No Brakes, No Fear .. Too Much Speed!
Rochester Hills, Michigan -- Seven 2-man teams will be burning up the
boards tonight, Friday, July 23, at the Velodrome at Bloomer Park in
Rochester Hills as NAS-TRACK Team Racing continues into Race #5 of its Friday
Night
Series.
The bicycle racing begins at 7 p.m. with a schedule that includes 1
mile sprints, a miss-and-out, and the hallmark of NAS-TRACK racing, the Madison
Team Races -- one 50 lap event around the 1/8th of a mile oval, the other 100
laps. Teams collect points in each event to determine the overall winner of
the evening. During the Madison Team race, the most dramatic of the racing,
team mates exchange places throughout the bike race about every 40 seconds to
make a race that never lets up in speed or tactics.
Tonight's ticket pairs a considered "master" of the Velodrome Dave
Koesel of Livonia with Andre Champoux of Ypsilanti; strong man Tony Bruley of
Rochester Hills is teamed with the NAS-TRACK upstart 16-year-old Luke Cavendar
of Troy. Current leader in the points Pio Apostoli of Toledo will be racing
with Cullen Watkins of Royal Oak. Also paired are Canada's Taylor Martin and
Jim Houston of Lake Orion, Keith Thorenson and Rob Good of Toronto, Nick
Laughton of Rochester Hills and Steve Geerligs of Howell, and Steve Mlujeak of
Rochester Hills and Ray Dybowski of Waterford.
NAS-TRACK Team Racing is featured on PBS-DPTV Ch. 56 at 11 p.m.
Saturdays and 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Host for the show is WDFN - 1130 AM
morning
man Jamie Samuelson. Live racing continues next Friday, July 30 with the
Championship event of the NAS-TRACK Friday Night Series. The Detroit 6 Day will
be
held from August 10-15 at the Velodrome at Bloomer Park.
Admission to the race is $3. Entrance to Bloomer Park is $5 per car.
The park is located at the end of John R in Rochester Hills.
