Bruley, Apostoli Win By A Point

Rochester Hills, Michigan -- It was a mad dash to the finish and what a
close finish it was as Tony Bruley and Pio Apostoli, racing as Team ORANGE,
edged out the competition by a single point to win Race 2 of the Friday Night
series of NAS-TRACK TEAM Racing.

So close were the team pairings that second place was a tie of 72 points
each, ultimately broken by the order of finish in the final sprint. It was
Team Whits’s Rob Akers who finished ahead of Team Pink’s Ray Dybowksi to
take home the second place honors.

The race action got underway at 7 p.m. at the Velodrome at Bloomer Park in
Rochester Hills and never let up until the racing ended , 1 1/2 hours later.

Team Blue of Rob Good and Taylor Martin, both of Canada, started the point
scramble, picking up first place points in the ½ mile Madison pursuit but in
ensuring events it was the team of Terry Palmer and Jim Houston, racing in red,
that amassed a points lead by placing high in the 1 mile sprints and winning the
first 50 lap Madison.

By the 100 lap Madison, the second half of the program, Team Red had lost
its suds and Team Orange, Team White and Team Pink dominated, not only
collecting all the points in the intermediate sprints but wearing out the other
teams with constant attacks off the front of the field. Bruley, who blew apart
the bike race last, week repeated that performance with relentess jams. Keeping
pace, Team White and Team Pink stayed on even mileage with Team Orange as those
three teams put the remaining four teams in a deficit mode.

Even Team Neon‘s Dave Koesel final effort to move up in the standings by
winning the final sprint failed to collect enough points to move his team out of
fourth position. As it ended, Team Orange’s dedication to the attack and
defense of its points put it in the winner’s circle.

Racing continues every Friday in July at 7 p.m. at the Velodrome at Bloomer
Park at the end of John R in Rochester Hills. It is broadcast at 11 p.m.
Saturdays on PBS-DPTV Ch. 56. Call 248-961-3705 for additional information or
