So....
Would you say that it was your experience from racing on the track at Bloomer
Velodrome that you're the racer you are today and that if a jr racer were to ask
you how they could work on becoming a better racer you'd tell them to spend time
at the track developing the fundamentals of bike racing?????
;)
Right?

Subject: [wolverine-list] Manderfield Update
Hello All!
I'm working on getting a new site/blog up and running but in the mean time I'm
long overdue for an update to those to care to read so:
Manderfield Report…
Where to start…I’m not even sure. I
guess my venture from MI and everything I knew there began in 2006 when I
attended my last two years of college on a cycling scholarship in Banner Elk,
NC at Lees-McRae College. At about the same time I started riding for
Verducci/Breakaway and spent summers in PA near the “T-town” track. Although
the years that followed lead to less and less time in MI it also lead to
continued development in many respects, including advancement in my cycling
career. One thing I have never forgotten along the way and will never forget
are all the people who got me started, supported me and even in my absence
still give as much support as ever!
I’m
long over due for an update so here it goes for anyone interested in the latest
happenings. I did graduate! So I officially have a degree in Sports Management
and I’m putting it to use by managing myself and my riding/racing schedule…see
I had no issue getting a job, lets just not talk about how lucrative it is.
Last year I had a pretty darn good year on the bike and a few rides that caught
the attention of my new director, Missy Thompson. Missy contacted me and made
an offer to join the LipSmacker Professional Women’s Team for the 2009 season
on the road. I decided it was a great opportunity and so far I’m thrilled with
the girls I’m riding with and looking forward to a very successful road
season. Although LipSmacker agreed
to allow me to race track they have no financial obligation to support me in
that discipline. Lucky for me I recently ran into a deal with a UCI track team
and I can now say I’m an active part of the Black Dog Sports Professional UCI
track team along with two team mates from Colorado.
As
for the season, it has started. Well, to be honest it kind of never really
ended. I traveled to Manchester England twice this past winter to compete at
the Manchester Revolution Series on the track. I finished off the winter track
season by attending the fifth World Cup in Copenhagen, Denmark with the US
Team. All the track races I did served as great experiences and it was
especially good to get to a World Cup so I have a good idea of where I need to
be in order to compete there. Now it is on to the road. Just last weekend I
competed at the Redlands Classic in CA and it was pretty obvious that I’m still
working on brining around my road legs. Nonetheless the field was in full force
and I got some good hard miles in. But, it’s only going to get harder! As I’m
writing to all of you I’m actually in a plane and currently looking down on
France…yep I’m across the pond. I will shortly land in Paris and then catch a
connection to Pisa, Italy. I’ll be staying at the US house in Lucca, Italy for
about a week before I jump on another plane to NED for some racing there. To be
honest I’m not sure of my exact schedule, but it basically consists of a number
of races in Northern Europe, where it is sure to be fast, hard racing, most
likely in cooler temperatures and rain. I’ll get a steady diet of this racing
for just over a month before I return stateside, hopefully with flying legs,
and finish off the domestic calendar in the States.
Enough
about me, how is everyone doing holding the fort down back in MI? I love to
hear from all of you so don’t hesitate to shoot me an email. Forgive me if I
don’t pick up phone calls for about a month but lets remember I’m a bike racer
and well I can’t afford that kind of phone bill! I hope all the young kids are
ready for a fun summer of riding and I hope I get to ride with all of you at
some point! Seriously don’t hesitate to email just to chat or if there is
anything I can do, it is always a comfort to hear from home when I’m so far
away.
Again,
Thank You to everyone for everything. I could not have asked for a better group
of people to surround me and to carry in my thoughts as I go on this crazy
journey chasing a dream you are all so much a part of. Thank You, Thank You,
Thank You from the bottom of my heart! I’ll do my very best to make you all
proud and represent our awesome state of MI!
All the best,
kacey manderfield

P.S. - I have safely arrived in Italy and it is amazing so far. I'll start my
first races on April 10th. You can follow updates on my Facebook account (kacey
manderfield) or Twitter (kmanderz) and I'll be sure to get a site address out
once I get a new site going.
