Hello everyone!
Hope you are all well and I just wanted to put out a quick memo.
Firstly saying thank you to the entire Wolverine Sports Club and the
Velodrome at Bloomer Park and all those involved. I have been thinking
about all of you a lot lately and how much you have all helped me get
to where I am. I thank all of you with the utmost sincereness.
I'm in California now at Elite Track Nationals. Yesterday I easily
made my way through the scratch heat and qualified to advance to the
final. Today (Friday) I competed at the start of the session in the
Keirin and in the Scratch Final at the end. Here is a note on the
races for those who are interested:
Keirin: I messed up in round 1 and had to race the repecharge, but I
got into the 2nd round and then made it on to the final. I wanted to
make a move early but I got beat to it and I ended up hanging on for
4th. I needed to be in a slightly bigger gear or of course just simply
have been able to spin faster! In any case 4th was the result.
Scratch Final: I was a bit tired going into this from all the keirin
rounds...my legs wouldn't stop being twitching/shaky, but I was
certainly warmed up well! I tried to race smart and just kinda surfed
the front area for quite some time. At one point I thought "Ok, kacey
you are chasing too much you need to just get in on things and do less
work"...I tagged on trains chasing the next few attacks and then a
solid 2 kinda pulled away. I believe it was Alison Powers and the
other was Shelly Olds. I jumped to go after it and then looked back to
see a bit of a gap had formed, I questioned weather I should go and
then I glanced to see 3laps on the lap card. "Ok, commit!" and I went
for it. When Alison pulled off Shelly hit the gas and I sat on. We
stayed away from the pack and I tried to pass in the last lap but my
legs weren't spinning any faster...I was gaining in the last 10 yards
and I came up about a tire width short to take 2nd. It's a bit of a
pill to swallow to be so close and not get it but it was a good race
and I have to be happy with it.
Points race is on Sunday, so that should be a another good time...and
this time I don't have to do a keirin first!
THANKS AGAIN TO ALL OF YOU FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT....it means the world to me!
Regards,
kacey
